Baileyrock
This is great, but does it really help at all ??? All bikes come with this code under the seat, the question is Can you bring this code to a DuPont or any other paint store and have a proper color match from these numbers? I thought the problem was that no paint store had Honda M/C codes or knew what they meant?

V4 Rosso
Can you bring this code to a DuPont or any other paint store and have a proper color match from these numbers? A "local" paint store has a lot, not all, of car and motorcycle codes programmed into their paint mix machine that spits out rattle cans. AB-Oz
The main use is if someone looks at the paint code under their seat, then can find out the name that honda calls it? eg PB-215C = Candy tahitian blue
Lee 2002
I thought the problem was that no paint store had Honda M/C codes or knew what they meant? :fing02: I very vividly remember the cussing and foul language involved when the guy at the local paint store attempted to match the light blue (artic blue ?) that I needed for the pressed tin exhaust covers (not installed in photo) of my '87 CBR 1000 Hurricane. My modified exhaust somehow had caused the paint to roast. At that time there was absolutely no cross reference or database or anything, according to him. It was all done by eye. He never did get it quite right. That's alright, I wadded the whole thing up a few years later.
Veefer800Canuck
Topic pinned What I had read (somewhere) was that Honda does not release their paint formulations to outfits like PPG and DuPont for them to copy and distribute to shops and consumers. Cars, yes, for purposes of collision repair. Bikes, no, probably so the OEMs can sell more fairing panels, all prepainted of course. Also, the paint they use on the motorcycles apparently has high levels of organic solvents and lead, exceeding what the EPA will allow for use in the USA. That's why the OE paint is so fricking durable over the years, given proper care.

Member Contributer JZH Posted February 9, 2010 Member Contributer Share Posted February 9, 2010 Which one is HRC gold [wheels] LOL, I remember this discussion on the RC30 Yahoo Group. Sorry, I have no more definitive answer than was offered there. HRC may not even have used standard Honda paint colours? Were there any production bikes with the same gold colour? Or is it unique to HRC? If the former is true, it may be possible to look in the relevant Honda Parts Catalogue, where the paint codes are sometimes listed. Guest joes1981
I'm looking for powder paint for my motorcycle rims. The colour is cold and my motorbike is Honda CB 1300 White / red, year 2004. Member Contributer njcop Posted August 15, 2012 Member Contributer Share Posted August 15, 2012 So long story short. Gas was spilled on the rattle can paint job that was done on my 02 VFR 800. The color on it now is metallic black. Seeing how i did an insurance claim and i am gonna recieve a check for the damage, I was thinking about getting my paint sprayed at a collision center. Because I know people I can get all the plastics sprayed for cost of the paint and some beer. My question now is, although I love the metllic black look, I also like the maroon color i've seen on some 6th gens. I don't know what years they are, but was looking to see if anyone knew what the name of the color was and the paint code. At this point i'm still undecided. Any help is much appreciated, even if it is timmy talking me into keeping it black(cause it is the fastest color).
daver314
I think the darker red is actually "candy glory red" (R101CU). The same red that's in the 2007 RWB. I believe this was also a colour for 2007.
Member Contributer expvet Posted April 14, 2013 Member Contributer Share Posted April 14, 2013 Is the color for the silver wheels that the 2006 VFR have on any of these charts, or has anyone used a touchup color from another source? However, the Color Rite website states that a particular base coat is need to achieve the metallic finish. Both the base coat and Candy Glory Red are $90 each for just a half pint of paint. That's $180 for a half pint of paint. I'm looking to repaint one lower fairing. I think replacement makes more sense than repainting. Veefer800Canuck
Again, as far as I had checked last, Honda does not release their exact motorcycle paint formulations to aftermarket paint companies like DuPont, PPG, or others to match by referencing the paint code under the seat. Automotive paint, yes, motorcycle paint, no. Partly this is due to how motorcycles and autos are repaired. Dent your 2014 Civic, and the new bumper and fender arrive unpainted at the Honda car dealership, and they paint and install the parts at their own bodyshop owned by the dealership. Dent your 2014 CBR1000, and the fairings arrive prepainted from Japan and are simply swapped at the Honda motorcycle dealership. Also, I had read that the paint formulations they use in Japan for the motorcycles have high levels of lead and VOC's that would not pass EPA regs here in North America. (at least they used to, that may have changed recently) So basically, any paint that you may find here is probably the result of someone scanning a body panel with one of those high-tech scanners, and using the formulation that the scanner spits out. That method may or may not result in a match, depending on numerous factors, not the least of which is the humidity and temperature during painting, air gun pressure, spray pattern, application technique of that particular painter, etc. Short story long, matching existing MC paint is a 'Good Luck Chuck' endeavour.
