So I got a ticket the other day riding around with my buddy. I though "man, I usually use my Escort detector... but was too lazy today." I wanted to buy a lesser model and take it apart, mounting most of it under the fairing... then I found the Whistler Cruisader. Crutchfield has them for $199 shipped (free) with the free in-helmet display right now.... sweet! So I nabbed one and mounted it tonight. I ended up grafting the mount they sent to my existing mount for my GPS. A buddy at Delta is making me a better bracket, but this will do for now. All I really ended up doing is drilling out a couple of new holes in the top ball-mount on the RAM mount. Check it out...

Next up is to make a better mount than the velcro they gave me for the front receiver. :P I also have a rear laser receiver to mount, but am changing the back end of the bike out soon, so I'll wait for that. This is going to look sweet once I do the gauges in blue!

I also mounted my triple tree cover I bought from the UK... looks cool, but was not cheap sad.gif

I haven't seen so much lights and electronics since sitting in the cockpit of a fighter jet.....when does the heads up display get installed in your wind screen? :unsure: Pretty soon you'll need a co-pilot besides you to manage all of the instruments. What's the Vector Victor? Roger, ROGER! :lol:

you have had that thing how long now? And you ONLY got 3300 miles on it. Dang, i have done that in the last Month! HAHAH, just giving you a hard time. Sounds like you really need to consult with tinyminds on how to get out of a ticket! LOL, some of the best BSing i have ever seen... He had us so stunned we where laughing in our helmets.

OK, so it seems to work. It falsed right where all the stores with auto doors were... and went off when the sign that tells you your speed clocked me smile.gif I have not tried the in helmet alert thing... but will need to as I never look at the speedo and would have missed the alarm going off if I wasn't looking for it. I also have that visual alert and am thinking about modding it to work with the whistler. The volt meter and temp gauge work well (although I will need to move the probe for the temp.) So far, so good, just need to get the alerts in my face smile.gif

In Australia, the police are able to detect if you have a radar detector. The fines for having a radar detector are very large, larger then most fines. If you have it hidden so they cannot find it, they can impound the vehicle to have it inspected.

A couple years ago I tried an inexpensive 'wireless' (i.e. battery powered) detector, but then I just figured I should slow the heck down, so I did. Still, would have nice to simply suction cup mount that thing on the back side of my VFR's windshield. But I don't think it was all that great a device anyway, not as effective as the more expensive ones.

Just don't get over confident with having Radar. There's many situations where it won't help, but there are worth every penny because it will save you from getting at least 50% more tickets.

I've been using a V-1 for over 5 years and it has saved me many times, but find it mostly worthless for Laser and Instant-On radar. There not full proof, but I hope never to be without one! :thumbsup:

I think I have it straight now.....

Sharts are bad, farkles are good.

Sharts are free, farkles are expensive.

In this case, the best things in life are not free.

Now back to radar detectors. They'll save you some of the time, but unfortunately there's still VASCAR, laser, the unmarked car behind you, instant on radar, etc. Good luck!

I have the Whistler Cruisader on my 02 VFR for two years. Originally I had it mounted like yours but worried about cutting air flow to the oil cooler. I found a space behind the dash that the unit fit perfectly, remove windshield and dash cover and slip it in aimed forward. I glued a block of Styrofoam under it to hold in place. The unit works fine behind the plastic. I mounted the remote laser detector under the head light. The blue led mounts on top of the dash and works well by its self as it is plainly visible as I ride.

The in helmet is a battery eater so I went on line to buy bulk batteries cheap 20 at a time. $1.59 ea.

I use it on long multi day rides, batteries last about 3-4 8 hr. days.

It is great to have a concealed unit that I do not have to worry about theft and have to remove it every time I leave the bike. Compared to my Escort on my other bike the sensitivity is good, I get a few more false alerts. The quality of the components are disappointing. I had to work the plugs to get good contacts and sprayed TV tuner cleaner on the helmet alert switch to get that to work. Bend the battery holder tab to make better contact with the batteries. The control screen fogs up and turns dark in hot sun. My temp gage is not accurate but the volt meter was very handy when my stator went out.

Once it is set up and working it works well, conceals nicely, in helmet is great, price is cheap, just wish they would have spent a few $ on better components.

Sweet. The blue guages are really gonna bring it all together. Be sure to do white, for the Tac., or you won't be able to read it. Looks like a time machine.

Glad you brought this up. I'm on a national campaign, to change this. It should be, "FIT or FITTING". Shart is incorrect. Shart, would be trying to s#it, and farted. Fit, would be trying to fart and s#it. Hence, fitting , or fitting one's self.

Looks good Will. I'm digging the triple tree cover.

How does your electical system do with all of the add-ons?

Not bad so far... watching the pull like a hawk. Cool weather is on the way and I'll be adding dual-stars and an outlet for my Gerbing stuff... we'll see what happens then. I hold pretty steady at about 13.4 with what I have now.

@mechdziner714 - it's wireless... but I think I won't be using it if I can re-wire the visualizer from Marc Parnes

@Baileyrock - SHHHHHH!!!!!! Kaitlin LOVES the wings and desperately wants me to get one!!! I told her dad is about 30 years away from that bike.

@Bad Boy - I was thinking the same thing... just doing a quick and dirty until my buddy gets the bracket I designed to me... then I want to move the ant. up under the cowl. Also holding off on the second laser receiver until I put the FSD tail on.

OK, so the gauges came back and now the whole dash is blue (except the tach.) Nothing new for me... did the same on the last bike... but didn't have the radar detector. Check it out...

I need a radar detector I can move easily and quickly between three bikes. Any recommendations besides get rid of two bikes?

BTW, house, nice plane you got there. The instruments kind of resemble a VFR... :lol:

I was using an Escort 8500 and just used mounts on my bike and my buddies. I can send you a ZG with the mount already installed if you want to check it out. The mount is here and looks like this...

So I finally got off my butt and mounted the new bracket. I need to get a new RAM ball and drill new holes... or just re-drill the new one ( the angle is off just a hair (see the pics.) I also added my fuse block with a harness and wire loom from easternbeaver.com - which are worth every penny! Now my stuff comes on and off with the bike wink.gif I also added a powerlet - cold months are coming! I ride year-round with the help of my Gerbing gear smile.gif Still need to get the heated grips rolling, but the wife was frowning my way after I spent all afternoon riding yesterday, then all afternoon today working on Butch's bike and mine.

Well, it all got rain-tested for about 45 min yesterday on the way home smile.gif Everything held up well and no issues from being wet! I also want to say how impressed I was with my Dainese Zen jacket. It's just perforated leather, but I stayed almost bone dry for 45 min in the rain. A few drops made it through the perfs here and there, but overall I was dry. Same for my Arai Vector helmet. Not the first time I have been wet... but the first time in this gear. A Dainese Zen jacket with a G2 back protector saved my skin and spine last april. The jacket is still wearable (with some street cred now) but I replaced the back protector as I landed on it after a 30 foot "flight." smile.gif It looked fine, but I'm not taking any chances.

Anyway, the Zumo and Whistler did just fine in the rain
