'98 R/r And Charging System

Just spoke to a friend who's a Honda svc. mgr. He's had the same problems with gold wings and VFRs... says slow riding in traffic with alot of brake light use will cause alot of load on the r/r. Also, the connector between the stator and the r/r corrode causing resistance and heat (reason for white connector melting). He's soldered the 3 yellow wires together to the 3r/r wires and used heat shrink tubing.

Also found out from the tech dept. of OptiMate that leaving a charger hooked up to the btry (an older OptiMate 1) but unplugging it from the 120vt source caused an RDC (reverse drain current). Learning something new every day!!
