Member Contributer DougFromIndy Posted December 22, 2006 Member Contributer Posted December 22, 2006 Hello! Just 2 simple items here: The oem remove seat and stick helmet loop under is a PITA. On long trips I have all my bags maxxed out and no room for lid storage...now they make these little bolt on the frame locks to tie helmet on...anyone using them ? Tell me what brand , how you mount it, how it works, etc There was a license plate bracket pic on here, was a bit bulky but function looked good ???? Just need a single lid locker and Q2 is I am using the safety? cable that bolts to the tank , kinda has 2 fittings on it that look like banjo fittings , I use a nylon twist plate bolt and tether my magnetic tank bag with this but am afraid I will mess up my paint when running without bag, just looking so a soft clippy (the one with tank bag not so great) Something soft that I can clip on/off simply and also let flap in wind or leave on and ride without bag hooked up, tank is perfect now and would like to keep it that way, thanks Doug :fing02: Quote

I dont remember who makes them, but they look just like throttlemiesters and replace the bar end weights. Has a key hole in the end, stick the key in, pull the whole weight off, put your helmet loop over the stem and then lock the bar weight back on. Quote
Guest Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 There was a license plate bracket pic on here, was a bit bulky but function looked good ???? Doug, I've had the Helmet Guardian on my 5th gen for several years, works fine. Regards, VFR_ATL Quote

I think I got the two 6mm keyed alike ones. Aerostich Quote
Guest Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 (edited) Tank bag is easy but not cheap. I have one of these for the RR and love it. It took about 6 weeks to get after ordering since it's a small company and they are hand made. Here are some pics. I didn't read your entire post and just saw "tank bag and scratch" in topic. I don't know if this will help or not but the tank bag is great. Edited December 22, 2006 by Hurricane249 Quote
TimC Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Great suggestions on the helmet locks. But I can't tell how the one from Aerostitch works...? Also, does the Helmet Guardian work with hard (or loaded soft) bags mounted? Looks like it would but I'd like to be sure. I hate carrying my helmet around when I'm off the bike. That's one feature I really miss from my Kawi ZR-7S! Thanks again, guys! Quote
Hobie1dog Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Go to barenders.com I don't like the down under helmet lock either, and I want to also remove the rear footpegs too. I have a plan to put a T-handle on the end of the cable for the seat lock and mount it near the rear tag. Quote
Guest Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 does the Helmet Guardian work with hard (or loaded soft) bags mounted? TimC, Yes it works just fine with my Corbin Beetle bags, which are never removed from the bike. On tour I end up stashing my BMW riding bud's lid along w/ mine since his helmet lock is useless. Thinking about ordering a set, but also considering the Helmet Guardian. Will depend on whether I buy and install a ThrottleMeister or a VistaCruise. Quote
Member Contributer VFRiderGal Posted December 27, 2006 Member Contributer Posted December 27, 2006 Looks like we are in the same boat! I really like the clean install of the bar end lock, but I'm a little concerned about some idiot coming along and hitting my helmet or pouring something in it. It's just begging to be messed with hanging so high and visible. I think I'm going to go with the Helmet Guardian. There is another option. I picked it up a helmet lock that attaches to a tubular piece of metal. (I think for around $10) Unfortunately, there's no place to put it on my bike. If you are good with metal, I'm sure you could modify, paint and mount it with a clean install. Quote
