Sunde Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Hi gents Now that i'v slightly upgraded my front with a Hyperpro kit, i can very much tell that the rear needs some help aswell... Annoying as cash is tight for me, but i'd like to hear if you guys have some suggestions for a rear shock that would aid me in "slightly more sporty" / adventure riding. I'd really like one that is serviceable. I dont know much about the aftermarket, please if you have any ideas throw them at me! And thanks a lot for reading this. Obligatory pic! Quote
Member Contributer MBrane Posted March 2 Member Contributer Posted March 2 Any good serviceable/adjustable shock is gonna be spendy. That's why my 2 both have Penske 8987s. Buy once cry once. 1 1 Quote

Fair point i guess Should i steer away from something like this then? Seeing as its their "budget" option I mean Nitron is a good brand afaik? https://www.nitron.co.uk/buy-online/motorcycles/honda/vfr800x-crossrunner/-15-16-/honda-vfr-800-x-crossrunner--15-16--ntr-r1 Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted March 3 Member Contributer Posted March 3 Nitron is a respected brand, as is YSS. Key is to set it up for your weight and riding style. 1 Quote
Sunde Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 The ordering process on Nitrons site seems to have me covered (weight with gear/riding style etc etc.) I'll give it a shot, at least its gonna be serviceable... haha Quote

In that case you can get the more advanced shock that you speak of. For some reason (im guessing room) the 2015+ "only" gets the R1 as an option. I'v also added the remote preload adjuster, a very pricey addition, but lawd i want it haha. I'll post pics once i have it, install seems to be pretty straight forward. Quote
Member Contributer ShipFixer Posted March 5 Member Contributer Posted March 5 Hyperpro rear shock is pretty awesome. They make an expensive three-way adjustable as well as a cheaper version. Both will come with a Hyperpro spring to match your front end. 1 1 Quote

I have the latest VFR800X model so the R1 stock option is the only available but I spoke to Brooks suspension and Nitron and they could not get the R2 and the R3 remote reservoir to fit but they could add a lengthened hose for those reservoir if asked , they will charge extra £83.33 for this customization and no return. He did assure me the R1 uses the same quality components like coils, big piston and housing with only missing the separate adjustable high speed / low speed compression and rebound and instead combines it together when adjusting it. Right now I am still hesitating whether to get the much more expensive R2 / R3 or just go with the R1 which is already very good! 1 Quote

I'v gone an ordered the R1, i suspect i will be more than pleased with upgrade, even if i am slightly worried about the rebound/compression being a combined adjuster. I hope they get the valving right, otherwise i'll always be chasing one or the other haha. Quote
Sunde Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 Currently out of country on a big exercise, once im home this piece of kit is being installed! Just had a chance to feel it out before i left, the adjusters click with clockwork accuracy, its a very nicely made shock i can already tell. (Basically machineporn) d: The spring has the number 1050 stamped onto it, i very much suspect this to be the rating, and it being british probably equates to 1050 lbs/inch which means 183NM. Thats one hell of a spring, im only 80-85KGS with full riding kit, so i suspect they took it seriously when i said i wanted a firm ride. O.o Anyone know what the OEM spring is rated at?? 2 Quote
Member Contributer Presson Posted March 22 Member Contributer Posted March 22 Ktech claim the standard shock spring on the VFR800x cross runner is 160Nm. 1 1 Quote
Sunde Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 Thanks! Not MASSIVLY much harder then, the spring anyway, valving etc is ofc also going to be different. Will be fun to try out 🙂 Quote
Sunde Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 HUGE upgrade with the new shock No more of the small rough impact transmissions i felt before, it is SO SMOOTH! Riding spirited its much easier to plant into the corner and just have it track true. Also easier to brake and change lean mid corner, hugely satisified! 2 Quote
Member Contributer Presson Posted March 29 Member Contributer Posted March 29 Tell us how effective you are finding the combined compression/ rebound adjuster 1 Quote
Sunde Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 7 minutes ago, Presson said: Tell us how effective you are finding the combined compression/ rebound adjuster I suspect that will be the biggest downside, as the shock/oils degrade over time, i might run into the combined adjuster leaving me either unsatisfied with rebound or compression... But as they'v tailored the shock to my weight/riding style, its REALLY good out of the box. I'v never had bike this comfortable, and at the same time effortless to hustle with. Also the first time i'v upgraded a shock, so guess i'v learnt something haha 2 Quote
Member Contributer Presson Posted March 29 Member Contributer Posted March 29 Great that it's working for you. It's often said that get the spring rate right and the damping becomes less of an issue. Hope you get a long life out of the new equipment 2 Quote
