Member Contributer jeffyjeff Posted July 18, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 18, 2024 Several of the VFRD regulars have been in contact by text. We have targeted the weekend of July 27/28 for a group road ride. What we haven't done is consider a route. Here is one suggestion; it more or less mirrors a ride we did on June 6, 2015. We had a blast. I'd like to do it again. If riders are OK with the route, we can meet up in Fairfield and jet over to Auburn before starting the ride. Afterward, we can head back for lunch somewhere in Auburn. So far, participation is shaping up as follows: IN Jeff J. Brian F. Tirso St. Stephen MAYBE RRluv2RIDE I'll post up meeting location and details later. Anyone interested in joining us can respond to this post. Thanks for reading. Jeff J. 1 Quote
Member Contributer Duc2V4 Posted July 19, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 19, 2024 Is this going to be a 2 Day ride, Saturday and Sunday? I have not officially been on a "true ride" yet, just commuting. I might just have to consider joining, just need some more details... Quote
Member Contributer jeffyjeff Posted July 19, 2024 Author Member Contributer Posted July 19, 2024 No, a one day ride either Saturday or Sunday. I'd guess Saturday, depending on rider's availability. Quote
Member Contributer Duc2V4 Posted July 19, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 19, 2024 Right now I am up for either day. If it's on Saturday, I'll need to ride up on Friday evening and stay the night somewhere close by. For Sunday, I can ride up on Saturday anytime during the day, still have to find a place to stay, but I wouldn't have to rush out of town in the evening. Whatever works for the group, I'm good with. 1 Quote

BrianF Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 I’m in, as per usual. Basically flying back to Cali just for this. Always enjoy tooling around with you weirdos. Has anyone scouted that Mosquito Rd section? I’m a regular on Mosquito RIDGE Rd - which is back open now, btw - but can’t recall if I’ve ever ridden Mosquito Rd. Google Maps also says a section of it is closed til Aug 29. Just gotta use that info to decide which bike to bring. Goat path or go fast? Quote
Member Contributer St. Stephen Posted July 19, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 19, 2024 I'm in. Thanks for getting the band back together Jeff! Quote

We're on a mission from God... A paved road mission, lest there be confusion. If indeed Mosquito Rd is not the asphalt paved stairway to heaven that I thought it was when I plotted the route, let's simply turn around and enjoy the good roads from the other direction. Or maybe head back up to that CDF watch tower and enjoy the view of God's green earth from the top of the mountain. Quote
Member Contributer jeffyjeff Posted July 19, 2024 Author Member Contributer Posted July 19, 2024 Let's meet up at 8:00 AM; Peets Coffee, 1380 Holiday Lane, Ste. 3, Fairfield, CA 94534 (just off of Travis Blvd. to the west of I-80). Kickstands up at 8:30. Looking forward to the ride. IN Jeff J Brian F St. Stephen Duc2V4 Tirso PENDING RRluv2RIDE Quote

Thanks, vfrcapn. Here is an alternative route we could consider. Went this way once before. As I recall, the road between French Meadows Dam and Wentworth was, let's say, "unimproved". But it is an option. Albeit possibly a bad option. Quote
BrianF Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 We could also do a tuning fork shaped ride - out to French Meadows Dam on Mosquito Ridge Rd and double back to Foresthill, then down to Georgetown for a run out to the end of Wentworth and back. Definitely no dirt on that. I'm never hell bent on loops, I just like good roads and will run them repeatedly until complete exhaustion (as TC and St.S know very well haha) 2 Quote
Member Contributer jeffyjeff Posted July 25, 2024 Author Member Contributer Posted July 25, 2024 The geriatric members of this group had a little shakedown ride today out to Pt. Reyes Lighthouse. Not to mention the turkey/goat cheese/fig sandwiches at Pt. Reyes Station. All positive feedback to report, except that even a new bike has not helped this old dog learn any tricks. Anyway, full steam ahead on our ride Saturday. As far as I know, everybody is still in. 8:00 AM at Peets in Fairfield, Travis Blvd exit just off I-80. See you there. 1 Quote
Member Contributer St. Stephen Posted July 25, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 25, 2024 Thanks Jeff! Since this is VFRD, here's member Tirso's beautiful 99. If you squint you can see Jeff's new BMW and my old RC-51 in the background. 1 Quote

Member Contributer jeffyjeff Posted July 28, 2024 Author Member Contributer Posted July 28, 2024 Nice ride yesterday. Thank you, my friends for another worthwhile VFRD road ride. Darryl and Brian F were both last minute scratches, so once again the over the hill gang, er, senior riders carried the torch (figuratively speaking, of course...it's fire season in California, and carrying torches through the forest might result in an arrest). 381 miles door to door in 10 hours 26 minutes. Day started out with drizzle and cold all the way to our meeting point and beyond. Around Davis the sky cleared and warmed up a bit. One pass on Wentworth out to Ice House Rd and back was all we were good for before it was time to split up. I continued down 193 to Placerville, then SR 49, SR124, and SR88 out to Stockton. Hwy 4 to Byron, then out Marsh Creek Rd and Morgan Territory Rd to Pleasanton and back over the hill. Sorry about the photograph. Only took 3 pix, and none were very imaginative. Anyway, here is proof we reached Wentworth Springs Rd and Ice House Rd, plus a couple of video clips. 1 2 Quote
