mikemo Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Hello all. I'm not new, but I have a new VFR. I bought a 1995 750 today. Browsing Facebook Marketplace can be fun, but sometimes expensive 😀. I probably paid too much for the bike, but it is in good shape and they don't come up for sale too often. It has almost 50k miles on it, but that didn't worry me much. I was disappointed to find that the tool kit was missing, so I'm going to have to find an appropriate pin wrench to adjust the chain. Charging system looks good (at least for now). All the plastic is there, but there are some small cracks and a few missing tabs, but I think it is all fixable. The inside of the tank looks almost new. I go to get my tag on Friday, and I'm looking forward to taking it out for a ride. Here it is, nestled between the 1982 Nighthawk 450 and the 1988 Supercharged MR2. 6 1 Quote

Member Contributer Presson Posted July 11, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 11, 2024 I love the look of that version. Great choice and find, as Captain80s says, just enough mileage to have got everything working smoothly.👍 Quote
mikemo Posted July 12, 2024 Author Posted July 12, 2024 Thanks guys. I got my tag this morning, so at lunch time I took it for a little spin. It is lighter than I expected, particularly with all the "Internet talk" about how heavy they are. The engine ran great and really pulled hard, although the idle is a little high (about 1500 rpm). The transmission shifted smoother than any other bike I've ridden. It's deceivingly fast and handles wonderfully. I'm sure it will be even better when I sort out the suspension. The riding position is a little more aggressive than I expected, but that's coming from a 1982 Nighthawk 450, so not surprised that it feels more sporty. I had to remind myself to squeeze the knees and tighten the core to get the weight of my wrists. I noticed that it was a bit slow to warm up, and even when fully warmed the temp gauge was still in the bottom 1/3 of the normal range. Not sure if this is right or if something is up with the cooling system (stuck thermostat?) At least it didn't overheat 🙂 Since my wheels are gold, I assume they aren't stock since I read that all RC36/II had black wheels. I wonder if they were painted or maybe came from another bike. Either way, I like it. The gold sets off the gold color in the "VFR" decal on the side fairings. Thanks again for the welcome. This seems like a friendly bunch. 1 Quote
Member Contributer Captain 80s Posted July 13, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 13, 2024 Very likely painted or powder coated. That rear wheel is unique to 94 - 97. I find that the stock position of the bars on the 90 - 97 are a little too angled inward for my preferred riding position. There are lugs on the clip-on that can be cut off and it allows you to rotate the bars more forward a fair amount. I make that mod to all of my bikes that have room at full lock for the bar to rotate around bit and not let anything hit the cowling. It "opens up" the cockpit a bit and makes a big difference to make a bike feel how you would like. Still plenty of clearance... If it seems good for you, disregard. Other's might find it useful. Cheers! 1 Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 13, 2024 Member Contributer Posted July 13, 2024 Temp gauge is a bit slow yeah, just as the fuel gauge stays up and than drops like a brick. No worries. If FL gets hot, a simple flick switch allows you to let the fan run. Wire the fan's negative connector to the frame with the switch inline. 1 Quote
