Having toured on my 4th and 5th gens, I must admit that there has always been a "Touring" bike in the garage as well. 

Not ever a replacement, but an alternative for long journeys. Since 2003 it has been a string of Yamahas, FZ1/FJRx2/FZ09/TracerGT.

Last summer the long ride steed was a V2 Multi. Bigger bags and more wind protection than the Tracer, and a few more pounds.

The jury is out on it's long term status, As the Clash said, "Should it stay or should it go".....

Great choice IMHO! 6th year now for mine and aside from a couple of electronic glitches (gas guage sensor, gear indicator) it has been trouble free.
