Front Rim Question

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I just noticed a dent in my front rim. It's holding air so I'm not hugely worried about it, but I do want to replace it when I get a chance. I assume a 5th gen wheel will fit (1998-2001?) but how about other years?

Thanks,

Not sure where you are in the world Jim, but you can have wheels straightened. But may be cheaper to replace with a straight 2nd hand wheel.

I've run some pretty bent rims at track speeds a lot without issue. If it holds air, it'll probably hold air forever.

Our straightener guy passed away a few years ago. Super nice guy. did superb work on wheels and rotors/discs.

I think I know who you are talking about.  Pretty sure he trained this guy and then they moved the business to AZ.

Due to inattention I ran over a lump of split firewood on my ST1100 while a mere 1000 miles from home...It left a highly visible dent on one rim but did not buckle the wheel or cause an air leak, and I actually couldn't tell from the way the bike rode afterwards. I had the wheel professionally straightened when I got home, it was suprisingly inexpensive and quick. Car wheels get smacked all the time and repaired, if you can't find a bike wheel specialist then try an auto wheel place.

You can replace the wheel with any 5th (98-01) or 6th gen (02-12-ish) VFR800 wheel.

We have a member here @cruzinaz who has owned and operated a wheel sales and repair business for 30ish years. He's done numerous wheels for me at very fair prices.

Call and ask for Kent, I'm not sure how often he checks in here. Tell him Sebastian sent you.

@TimC this is the guy I was telling you about for your BMW wheel.
