The first few bikes I ever rode were thumpers.

CT-70 aka Trail 70 (neighbor's)

CL-125 (cousin's)

XL-75 (later neighbor's) Possibly an XR-75 but I think I remember lights and turn signals, so probably an XL.

I also rode the obligatory mini-bike with no suspension and a Briggs or equivalent pull start...once.  It wasn't much fun because we were on rough trails and my buddy was on a Benelli mini-bike of some sort with real suspension.

I bought a TTR-90 for my son back around Y2K, but I rode it around the yard/pasture as much as he did.  lol

Other than the 420 Rancher, I don't think I've ever ridden thumpers, other than just sitting on a friend's KLR to see how it felt.  We were going to swap rides for a little while, but he was uncomfortable with the ~500 lb weight and the pretty fairing on the VFR.  I was uncomfortable with him on it too. lol

Dutchy, you're just jealous since my minibike was more powerful than your Gileras.  😉

I'll try to dig up a pic but I'm not sure if cameras had been invented back then.

Recently purchased my first single cylinder bike a new 2022 KLR Adventure, only put about 2000km on it but loving it so far. But the rumours are true it feels heavy especially moving it around the garage with a full tank of fuel. To be fair I think it’s the added height that makes it more difficult.

Picos Europa mountain range south of Santander, Spain.

Rode that 150cc single cilinder in that area for a week. 2,000km 🙂

Didn’t quite get that far on the North Coast of Spain, made it as far as San Sebastián and Bilbao. The mountains in your photo look very similar to a mountain range in the South of Spain called The Serrated Mountains (Montserrat) thought for a moment I’d picked the spot. Had about three weeks in The Netherlands (Holland😳)in 2000 and we loved it, especially the Poffertjes, ate too many.

I'm almost embarrassed to post that my only foray into the single cylinder world was the venerable Honda SS50 4-speed. Owned from 16 - 17 yo ('77 - '78). Sadly no photos of my beast but this is from the David Silver Spares museum.
