Got my driver's license in August 82 and bought the first bike 4 weeks later. Have only a non digital picture of the bike, it was a 79 Suzi GT250 7 in blue. This here is my first bike, a CB125T. I was all set to buy something bigger but my Dad intervened and offered to pay for half, provided all I got was a 125...I waited until he went overseas and upgraded to a 250, 6 months later. Since I am at it. My first bike, a 79 Suzuki GT 250 X7 with a cross drilled brake rotor, back then pretty special, and a white Giuliari seat. Next, my 82 GS550 Katana (had it from 85-90) After a short stint on a 89 cbr1000 hurricane, got the 89 cbr600 hurricane (loved this bike!) After I moved to the US in 01 when speed was not a factor, got the 01 KTM Duke , my first new bike! Pissed off many Harley and sport bike guys with it. After 10 years break (kids and trying to grow up) got back to the unavoidable. Now on my 4th Gen (the RC 30 was the dream bike but the red 97 will do it) Attached are the pictures (sorry, was not able to rotate the blue Suzi)

Newer '91 model using mono-shock with rising-rate linkage and 12v electronics! Weird U.S. model got wire-spoke wheels though... had made earlier reply, don't know what happened to it. Short version since I won't type all that again: - 52-yrs - been riding since 13 - first vehicle when I got license was VF500F, not car like all my friends - took some time off to do sky-diving and auto-racing - those got boring and got back to bikes The adrenaline never ends with bikes!! 🙂
Member Contributer Skids Posted February 8, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted February 8, 2022 My first ride was as a kid on a m8's BSA 175 Bantam on some scrub land out the back of his fathers house. Got the bug from there. Got my freedom aged 16 and bought a Honda moped (50cc) then at 17 passed my test and bought a Suzuki GT250K. Got my first speeding ticket a week later! 🤦♂️ Being at school still, I had no money so a cheap 750 was in order next and I ended up, bizarrely, with a '76 Triumph Bonneville 750. Moved quickly onto a sublime Honda CB500-4. All my m8's had 400-4's so mine was faster 😜 Next was the first of 2 Kawasaki Z650's. Followed by 20 years of being a Biker Without a Bike. I worked in a bank after I left school and the suit kept getting trashed on the bike so I had to sell and buy a car. Then I moved overseas, got married etc etc until aged 40 my wife said I should get another bike and that's when I discovered VFR's. Here she is, fresh from the dealer, a 98 which went on to over 130,000 miles. She was my first, I've had another 4 since then, an '08, a '14 VFR1200F (still owned), a white '15 VFR800X Crossrunner and an '18 Crossrunner (still owned). I collect an '01 this Saturday. I'm trying to convince myself I'm 61 years young, but too often it doesn't feel that young.

Member Contributer Mohawk Posted February 8, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted February 8, 2022 No pics of my early days, but in 1980 first bike was a Honda C90, then;- Honda CB100N Kawasaki Z200 Honda CB400N, died in a crash that crushed a knuckle on my left foot. Yamaha RD250LC, sold to pay for ski trip with love of my life. Where is she now, was a bad decision. Next should have been RD350YPVS, but got written off 2 days before I would have got it😩 Honda XBR500, nearly ripped arm off in bad crash. Honda CBX550F2, crashed into parked car to avoid being crushed by an 18 wheeler. Honda VF500F2 Honda CBR600F4 (FY in UK) Honda ANF125 as a winter bike, The Chicken Chaser. Honda CBF250F first one in UK of the MK2 model. Suzuki DRZ400SM was a blast Kawasaki ZZR250 x2 built next winter bike, now refurbed & modified, too good for winter now. Working on converting to 315cc with Ninja 300 engine. Honda VFR800Fi the one 👍 You all know my baby Kawasaki Versys-X 300, the new SUV of the bike world. Bought as winter bike & used for light off roading, fell off & knackered same arm again, 32 years later😩 Fancy a Guzzi V85TT as an all round universal bike. Member Contributer Grum Posted February 9, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted February 9, 2022 My love affair with Honda began in the mid 70's. First Honda was an Amigo 50cc mini bike, then graduated to the huge power of 100cc a Honda SL100! Tearing around bush tracks both of these bikes performed flawlessly. The need for 4 wheels, work, marriage, kids etc.... began a hiatus of 26 years from bikes until 2004 with the purchase of my first of three 6gens. Now at the ripe old age of 65, my current 8gen having done over 86,000k's never ceases to put a smile on my dial! It runs and looks as good as new, I have no future plan of what or when to replace it. What other bike out there offers that magnificent V4 magic, can run happily on standard fuels, offers great tank range, beautiful build quality, great in both sport or touring and has such a stunning look and sound etc, etc....? Cheers and safe riding fellow VFR lovers!

Member Contributer Cogswell Posted February 9, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted February 9, 2022 Wow - some really great albums of previous 2 wheel loves - I can't hold a candle. All my riding prior to V-4's was on dirt bikes and photos of those are long gone. I do have a couple of pics of my 4th gen - after I sold it the buyer took it to Texas and totaled it. She was a sweet bike - wish I'd kept it. The 2 Brothers slip on lives on with a high mount on my 5th gen I traded for.

Member Contributer slo1 Posted February 9, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted February 9, 2022 in my 60's, riding since the 70's. Many bikes have come and gone, but the 4th gens have stayed around the longest. Not my favorite "Touring" bike, but it's the one that speaks to my soul the most. It's been a good run, and with luck there will be many more miles ridden. 1980, with everything i owned...

Is that a 550? It's air cooled so not a 750 and seems a bit large to be a 380. Despite technology making bikes so much better now, road bikes of that vintage have a certain appeal and magic about them absent today.

Strangely, I'm more drawn to the earlier versions with front drum brakes. I can't 'splain that one - sort of like taste in women - just what it is. Might have to pick one up as a project when there's more time in my days.
