Time to ride. A few of us had gotten together months ago to plan this ride over a few beers, covid made us wait three months.
I had been busy modifying my 5th gen for a previous trip , I now have crash bars , pannier mounts , a sacrificial fairing  and  knobby tyres. ( I will throw in a pic from that trip so you know why I need crash bars )

The route has been planned , a mixture of tar , dirt roads and some trails. Of course it rained for two days before departure , with rain forecast for the next couple of days, drag out that wet weather gear , we are still going.

Saturday morning was a bit overcast , was happy with that, headed off up the mountains to meet the other guys at zig zag railway . 3 x bmw gs1200 ,1 x tenere 700 and myself ( you get the picture now)  having rained earlier was a bit of a two edged sword , no dust , however some really wet slippery patches had to be navigated.
We wound our way on the dirt roads and tracks to hill end , from there a road that is closed due to a land slip takes you to Bathurst , motorcycles can still get through , it is dirt and a bit rough , I don’t think many would take a road bike there.
The vfr handled it well , I managed to stay upright for a change so was quite happy with myself. Had a fantastic ride. Stayed at Bathurst overnight leaving in the rain on Sunday morning , rode a mixture of dirt and tar roads back home .  The year is wrong on my go pro. The last pic is from a previous trip where I tested my modifications. AE77D825-D6C1-4AB5-BBE5-2938D9424260.thumb.jpeg.7fe6a7e9d0738d5f569ef99b197f45dc.jpeg 5B41F118-169E-4714-A1E9-7AFBC8C8C1C7.thumb.jpeg.7998f7f9a253bce2488020e8c3e760c9.jpeg59AF7AFC-D865-44E9-971E-9446C3F93F91.thumb.jpeg.a74cdd4796a9e71247873b4351e7d249.jpeg

Brilliant, my hat is off to you, Sir, thanks for sharing that. My most memorable rides have happened when I relied on "gut-feel" rather than GPS and have ended up semi-lost on some meandering gravel with grass growing down the middle. Hard work at the time but great to look back on.

Us Aucklanders are starting to plan similar escapes, although we are currently free to ride with our own infected city, which has plenty of decent roads but we are starting to get a bit dizzy...

Hang in there! Moto riding and vaccination shall set ye free!  I would very much like to get down under and ride with like minded VFR adventurers.  LMK when a good time to visit approaches!
