Hey!

Hey Everyone!! New guy here, purchased my 2003 VFR800 Interceptor a couple of weeks ago with 15k on it. So far I've had to put on new levers, new windshield and new mirrors with turn signals integrated into them. My seat has a rip in it ,so I'm going to cover it soon with something different from a local leather store. Can't say I've done much riding on it just yet as I'm still in the, "Making it mine" phase. Didn't have the luggage brackets,so I'm selling my hard shell bags. My first bike was a 9

My It's Hot...... 40+ C, To Be Exact.

Oh, my Lord, it's hot down here. Anyway...To the chase! It's a given that you have to seal every single part of the engine, before you attack it with bead blast. I did that, and then ground off all the cast marks, just so it'll look great, once back in the bike....Or once the bike is rebuilt around the engine, to be more precise. My thoughts, for this week, as i've been blasting in 42C (107F)??? The oil cooler has an insane amount of plumbing, to get it to where it lives. I have no idea why, to

This Is Gold!

How's this for a good start? Keep in mind, this engine is over 200,000 kilometers old. I started into it, over the weekend, and was going to go to town on it. Something this old SHOULD be showing signs of wear, right? It'd be in need of major work.....right? Well.....no, actually. The next time someone says to you that your VFR is getting a bit long in the tooth, keep this entry in mind. The cam lobes are literally unmarked. All of the warranty yellow marks are uncracked, and there's no real nee

Back On The Horse

Short version. Ride to work and back on the Daytona last Friday. OMG IT FELT AWESOME to be back in the bike. LONG VERSION. so I spent the week testing my sitting position on the Daytona. It was so tempting with it there in the garage. Doc hadn't given me the all clear but Wednesday afternoon I started her up and headed out. I got down the drive and then pulled my leg up to the peg. That didn't work and there were a lot of weird aches around the knee. I let my leg hang and wobbled back to the

Down To The Lump.......finally!

This is what it looks like, when you get to the start of things.......Well, almost the start of things. Most of the engine will be going back into the bike. I'm still tossing up weather it's worth going too much deeper into it. Maybe a hone, and a port job, but just maybe. It DID take alot to get it to this stage, so i'll see how I feel as things progress. My first missions are to replace the steering head bearings with conical items.....but that'll only be once I decide which front end i'm goin

At The End......and The Start, All At Once.

Here we are, finally. A bare frame, and alot of ideas. I spent the entire day making up tooling to remove the adjustable inserts for the frame, and finally managed to extract the lump for the perimeter. I don't think there's anything more exciting than a blank canvas. And this about as blank as stuffs get. There's some cleaning up....well......LOTS of cleaning up, to do. I'm actually already looking at a way to make the battery a bit better balanced...with a capacitor setup, and a couple of 6 vo

I'm Honda Something Good..... See What I Did, There.....?

Enough tomfoolery...... This is serious! I've made some discoveries, in the last few weeks. Number one....You should never undo the inlet hose to the oil cooler, and walk off. So much oil. So much mess.... Secondly....You should never EVER pretend that you're doing one thing, when you know you're going to do the complete opposite. As i've pulled the old girl down, i've been taking notes....making simple drawings....measuring stuffs. I'm sure that onlookers would be horrified to know, and see, th

Houston.........everything's O.k.......

Right....... We're back on track. My apologies for not posting for such a long time. Stuff happens....Like my wife's car shi%%ing itself. Head gaskets, inlet manifold gaskets........and still no good. Broken heads. New car....DONE!!! Now back to the chase. I still can't upload photos, but keep watching this space. If I can't get it to happen, we'll have to go to YouTube, and do a video thing on there, instead. Not much to report, at this time. The bike is in a million bits, but still too togethe

Post Crash Update

Its been three frustrating weeks now. I hobble about the house finding it uncomfortable to sit, stand or walk for too long. I count my lucky stars though and know it could have been much much worse. My decision to wear all the gear saved a LOT of heart ache. Here is the bike. Insurance has today told me that it's a total loss. I'm really sad about that, but not surprised when you see the damage. I won't have enough to buy a replacement new VFR, though I coul

The Veefalo Rides To California

WITHOUT MIGUEL !!! My brother flew out last year from Delaware to Colorado for a week of dirt bike and street riding. We had a great time but had a major glitch. I managed to blow up my Yamaha FZ1 ECU 2 days before he flew out (long story). I could not find one in time so I had to borrow a bike so we could do the 4 day Colorado ride we had planned. A good buddy of mine up in Denver had a Ninja 650 he let us use and I returned it with a new set of tires as thanks for the loaner. My brother rod

End Of An Era

That's what my sister and my mum separately described it when I told them. Sunday night, marginally later than usual I headed down the highway from Sydney to Canberra on my VFR. After my usual refuel at Marulan and a text to wife I was on my way again. As I travelled along the edge of Lake George I was passing a car and about level with its doors when it appeared. Ten foot tall with red blazing eyes and a t-shirt that read "death to motorcyclists" the kangaroo leapt from in front of the ca

Overshooting The Runway.....

Hi all. I recently purchased a 4th gen VFR 750 FV, with all good intention to simply wash the crap off it, fix the fairing, and ride it 'till it died. It's got almost 200,000 k's on the clock, and isn't worth putting an enormous amount of time or money into, as far as i'm concerned....or was concerned, should I say. I picked the bike up cheap, with no rego, pretty crappy fairings, and a wish to have it ready to ride before summer gets here. I started off by taking off the fairings, then

Nowhere In Particular

Here i am, 95km to Goulburn on the side of the Hume Highway. And here's why. Onwards to another 150,000. Though I did drop by the local Honda dealer and checked out the new VFR800. I quite like the look of it in the flesh. I asked about a test ride and the guy almost begged me to take it for a ride - I think he wanted the opinion of a 6th gen owner so he could use it to sell them. I will take it for a ride, sitting on it - it felt very similar. I'll see how it rides...

Over The Mountains

A cool but sunny late autumn day dawned on the Friday for my trip back to my family in Sydney. It seemed like a great opportunity to try a alternate route that had been recommended to me. The main reason that I hadn't yet tried this way is that I estimated it would take around 6 hours - that's double my normal time, door to door, and being a new route, I would be taking it easy. I also had been warned that snow and ice were real possibilities on this route so weather was also a big concern. Bu

Vfr's In Arkansas...lots Of Them

Been awhile since I've done any kind of ride report. Actually, this is more of a comment or sighting than it is a report. I had hoped to meet some fellow VFRD'ers in one of the greatest riding states available to us...Arkansas. Unfortunately, some last minute job details delayed my launch so I opted for plan B. A few local friends were doing a leisurely jaunt up to Oklahoma and then Arkansas for a bit of moto-camping so I decided to just tag along with them. It's probably a good thing since

Muddy Waters

Another Sunday means another ride to Canberra. The weather was warm with some scattered clouds. A pleasant, if dull ride ahead. I was about forty five minutes from home when I noticed all the cars headed the other way had their lights on. At five in the evening, that wasn't a good sign. About five or so minutes later the road ahead seemed to disappear into a cloud. I quickly pulled over... rain ahead. As I pulled my rain pants from the top box it started to rain a little. Big drops, but not mu

Somethings Wrong...

The VFR spent most of the last few weeks in the shop waiting for a water pump. It started the afternoon after getting home, I popped back into the garage and noticed a small puddle of coolant on the floor. Not a good sign. I rang the local bike shop, a new one as I'm in Canberra now. The guy on the phone said something about "Don't worry, they'll do that when its hot and the overflow tank fills. No need to bring it in." I sat back after hanging up. I've had this bike for ten years and 140,000k

I Haven't Ridden This Far In 50 Years.

So I've moved down to Canberra where I live during the week, and head home every weekend. One of the problems with this has been that whichever bike stays in Sydney won't get ridden, and its not fair to my family to be away all week, come home late Friday and then spend all Saturday riding, before leaving for Canberra mid afternoon Sunday. I always planned to move both bikes down here, but how do I do that. I'd really need a lift from a buddy or maybe catch the intercity bus. My mum and dad w
