Pnw Vfrd Meet 2006

Too bad I only made it down to Newport on Saturday, I would have loved to have been there all weekend. You see, I had some family obligations that I had already made a year ago (before the date for the PNW meet was every decided on) so that?s way I missed most of the meet. I was up in Long Beach, WA with my parents for a Goldwing Road Riders Association campout; lot of fun actually. Anyway, I managed to skip out on Saturday and ride down for the VFR meet. So, I left at about 4:30 AM from Long

Heading To Tennessee Again!

Well I was surprised to get a PM from Florida Member Jeremy555 that basically invited me to ride with the guys again at Deals Gap in September - airfare to get me there, room, and a bike to borrow for the weekend! WOW what can I say about that - other than yes of course. It would be impolite and ungrateful to turn down a gesture like that, and luckily my boss also agreed and let me have the time off to do it! I really don't know what to say really, thank you guys, really its a great thing to

Last night I went for a great ride with Tom Bartlett. He came over to show me his new 2003 Valkeyrie. We went up for a short 45 min to the Lake Champlain Islands. It did give me a chance to try my new Alpinestar SMX-4 boots. They need to be broken in !!!! Anyway I rode on them today as well to work. Now I just need the pants. Christian

Ok so I wanted to log the details of my purchase. I bought the bike from John King on Long Beach, NY on Long Island on June 11, 2006. I paid $3600. the bike had 20067 miles on it. John drove it from LI to New London,CT and I picked it up from him at the ferry peer in New London on June 19, 2006. This was the day of Carly's graduation from ICA. He changed the oil the night before, so let's say at 20000 miles. I have seen then bought a ICON tank bag $80, a pair of JR Speedmaster gloves $70,

A Grand Day Out

Woo Hoo!!! I just noticed that I've reached 1000 posts today!!! Yeah for me. Now I have six of those blue boxes after under my name! Here's the story about how I got my VFR. My friend, Fred, was up visiting from San Francisco for the weekend. He had just bought himself a brand new 2003 SV1000S that a dealer had leftover. This really got me thinking about what my next bike was going to be. At that point in time, I was riding a 2001 Honda VLX600 Shadow, which I bought new in October 20

Man I Love Riding

MY VFR that is! Just competed the 5th annual Ride to Creede this year was the biggest gathering yet, 7 riders this time, compared to 4 last year. We also made very good time, stopping to regroup where we lost one or two. This time we had 3 BMW's with us from ST.N where I also posted this ride. I realize I haven't posted in the blog in over a week, well since I am out riding its hard to keep up. Last week I rode with Craig and Dan in the Rampart Range area on the dirt-bikes, I am thinking I

Windy Ridge Blast

Well, it was an incredibly nice day today, except for the heat of course. I ended up heading to Windy Ridge near Mt. St. Helens for a ride with some old and new friends! So, my friend Bryan and I took off this morning from my place and we headed of north to meet up with Loni (magellen) and his wife, Sarah. We ended up blasting north on I-205 to Highway-12 where we headed to Morton, which was about 110 miles. Morton was where we were supposed to meet up with Keith (keithbob) an

Two Bikes Down At The Mall.

Ok, so I ended up heading to Seattle today with my girlfriend to pick up her flute from the repair shop. After we stopped by the music store, which was located in the mall, we decided to walk around a bit. Anyway, as we left the mall to head out, I noticed a gathering of mall security guards. After a second look, I notice the guards are standing next to these two bikes. One of which was laying on the ground and the other was being held up by one of the security guards. Obviously, I had to g

Trip To Yosemite

Last weekend I decided to head down to San Francisco and meet up with some friends. I took Friday off from work and rode 650 miles down to San Francisco. I had just put a new chain and sprocket on Thursday night, so I was constantly checking and adjusting my chain. Saturday morning, Fred (wazzufreddo) and I headed out of San Francisco to Livermore to pick up another friend, Dennis (who's actually a vfrd member, but lurks here most of the time). From there, we head to Yosemite. Outside Es

Week In Review

VFRD once again gets hacked, as some of you know, after all the work and the money I spent securing the site with the upgraded forum software I must have missed somthing and they got in and changed the board wrapper with a downloader trojan. I deleted it as soon as I saw it, they seem to always attack the board wrapper and plant a frame in there. I am thinking of writing a script myself that refreshes the board wrapper every hour with a clean wrapper so even if they do get in and change it the

Weekend Ride

Well we headed over to Redding via Hwy.299 Friday afternoon and as luck would have it we had NO TRAFFIC for the famous run down Buckhorn summit into Redding so we got to enjoy about 10 miles of very twisty road uninterrupted. The temp was well over 100 even late in the day so it was to the pool before showering to meet a lady friend for dinner and partying. Saturday we were up (not too early) and headed out Hwy. 44 toward Lassen park, Burney, through the hat creek and pit river drainages. These

Skipped Punishment

I am sure Craig and Dan had a wonderful time tearing up the Stulz Tanner Trail on the dirt bikes today, me I woke up late and slept in for a change skipped my punishment this week. I am finally fully recovered from a week of soreness from the last time I went dirtbike riding with those guys. I am thinking I really dont enjoy the dirtbike experience as much as they do. Perhaps it is because I ride a 650 instead of a 400 like they do or that I just suck at it? In any case I have to ride to the

Squids We Are

I dont think I have ridden that fast for so long! We did the Cripple Creek thing like planned then we headed over High Park Road and hwy 50 for a Burger at Texas Creek. I think we rode the entire streatch of hwy 50 at over a hundred plus, all three of us, and had so much fun we turned around and did it again, passing the same cars over again. "Excuse me can I get by ya - AGAIN" Dan said as we talked about it at lunch. One green SUV we passed pulled into the restrant and slowed down and st

My First Ever Blog Entry

To be honest, I really don't even know what BLOG means !!! but have a general idea of what they are for. Recent items for Snowgirl and I are a beautiful ride we did on the infamous Hwy. 36/Hwy.3/Hwy.299 here in beautiful far northern California. After stopping on South Fork Summit and talking with another husband and wife riding team about dear/mishaps and learning of her wreck involving one, we rounded a corner just a few miles east, a nice 80mph left sweeper and low and behold here is big 3

Heading Out With The Guys!

Just fitted the bike with EBC HH pads all around, and put on a few stickers for the crappy plastic hugger. Going to head up to Cripple Creek, Victor with Dan and Craig for a bit of fun. We wanted to do hwy 67 to Pine but the CDOT says its closed due to flash flood damage. Dan has to be back early so its just a local ride. It is sunny out and a bit cool should be fun! When I was fitting the new brakes I noticed a bit of play in my front wheel - wheel bearings are shot, thanks Baileyrock for b

Wrong part for the job

I've actually been trying to figure out how to quiet down my exhaust since I got the bike. I've already repacked the mufflers (they needed it) and wrapped some of the horible PO welding (all straight pipes cut at angles and welded together to make bends under the bike) and it still sounded like it came from a race track. Don't get me wrong, I like me some good exhaust note, but this was so much that I wouldn't ride it across a parking lot withough earplugs. So I'd been thinking, I need someth

Work Has Begun

Where to start starting with the chain All my parts arrived one by one, the chain and sprocket set first, then the brake pads, fork oil, fork seals, and various other things. I decided to replace the cradle on my Zumo and with it install a bmw style plug in the head tube from Powerlet. They make a vfr kit so I bought it, using the existing molex setup I had before I just solidered the molex wires to the kit and then taped it all up good. I figure I need a disconnect if I want to use the new
