Over revving HELP!!!

I have a VFR800 Fyi 200 year. When I start my bike from cold it idles at just over 2,000 rpm this is correct from all I am told, however when it reaches approx 65C the idle goes up on its own accord to 3-3,500 rpm, it stays there for maybe 4-5 mins then drops down to normal revs about 1200 rpm. Can anyone tell me what this could be please?

Thanks frustrated!!!

Hmmmm.  It's probably something to do with the Fast Idle Wax Unit, located under the throttle bodies (and only found on the '00 and '01 5th gens), but I don't recall exactly what the problem was or how it can be fixed.  These models don't have choke levers (or, more appropriately, fast idle levers), as the wax unit is supposed to control the idle automatically.  Someone who knows the details will be along soon!

Ciao,

It can be a sticky wax unit, or the coolant port to the wax unit is blocked.

Best bet is to remove the air box and have a look.

Is your cooling system clean and well looked after?
