I apologize if this has been covered, but I'm having difficulty finding answers about the VFR1200 trunk/top case. I ordered the OEM rear carrier hoping that I could install my Givi case, but they do not appear compatible. A few questions, if I may: 1. Is there an adapter plate that would allow install of a givi case on the OEM carrier? 2. Regarding the OEM trunk/top case, how does this mount to the carrier? I do not have an OEM top case to look at, and I'm having trouble picturing how it attaches. Is an adapter plate of some kind required here as well? (Photos of rear carrier/base plate and underside of OEM trunk would be appreciated) 3. I've read that a larger (45L instead of 31L) OEM trunk is available. Does anyone know where I may source one without paying an arm and a leg? 4. Are there any surprise duties/taxes/fees when ordering items from Europe from here in the States? Thank you in advance!
My lovely wife wants to join me on a 9 day road trip for the first time since before kids (the oldest is 18). I have a 2014 standard VFR800 and I need to outfit it with saddlebags, a trunk, and a back rest but I cannot locate any pics. I'd rather buy used but... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
On both my old VFR's I had full luggage sets but I found that the one piece that got the most usage was the topcase. I like the look of the OEM topcase, but there is no way in hell I am spending ~$900 for that and the mounting kit. I have looked at the Givi setup, but I do not like the way it looks. It sticks up and back too far and it looks like it will break too easily. Such as this: I only know of a few case manufacturers (Givi, Kappa, & Shad) but what I am hoping to find is a 35 liter topcase that I can put my helmet in at least and not look like a waiter with a serving tray.
I finally got my motech alurack delivered, after a 6 week backorder, so I installed the S50 CooCase onto the 1200. It really is 48L not 50. It comes with remote lock, two keys, alarm, brake and running lights. It also has removable panels for painting, I am thinking of sending the insert off to get the Red treatment, and have an extra one in black in case it gets too scratchy. There are a few colour options available, AdMore lighting has kits to upgrade the small (4) LEDs that come with the kit. Twisted Throttle suggested I buy their wiring kit, and the Motech plate instead of using the supplied Coocase plate, and it works well. I have had it around town and up to 130km/hr on the freeway and it has stayed on. I have had Givi and Kappa stuff, but the price for a 48L starting at 179.00 was too good to pass up. The OEM trunk up here is obscenely priced. The Rack is sturdy, comes with hardware to attach where the grab handles are, has electrical plugs that interface with the case, has rubber plugs for when the rack is off. Installation was fairly straightforward, and TwTh said to call if I ran into trouble. All in all, I am happy with the quality of the rack and the case. The quick release plate makes it easy to swap different trunks back and forth, even if they are different manufacturers, which makes this more useful than the OEM offering for me.
