  1. Good day guys. VFR newbie here. Just got my 2010 VFR1200F (manual) two days ago, and noticed that ABS flashes for 10 seconds after starting the engine, i.e. I turn the ignition - ABS light comes on I push the start button, engine starts, and half a second after ABS starts flashing for 10 seconds After ten seconds the ABS lights normally After I start moving, past 10km/h or so, it disappears and continues to behave by the book. I've documented it in the below video. Any ideas? The bike has Two Brothers exhaust, K&N filter, and Power Commander, all tuned on dyno by the previous owners. Thank you!
  2. Engine cutting out randomly

My '02 nearly left me stranded yesterday coming back from work. I was riding in the city at moderate speed when engine cut off completely without warning. I pulled over by the curb, put her back in neutral and tried to restart: the starter would crank but the engine wouldn't start at first. That's when I noticed the ABS light was flashing. I was about to call a tow truck when I tried to start again and this time it did. I rode for about 5 minutes before it cut off again. I noticed the fuel injection warning light coming on, but it went away after riding for a bit. So I managed to start again and then rode for about 10-15 minutes before it happened one last time (about 5 blocks from home), then I made it home. I'm obviously going to take it to a mechanic early next week, but just wondering if any others have had a similar problem, and what was the issue. Except for the ABS light flashing, all other conditions seemed normal: Engine temperature, oil / coolant levels, etc. The bike is an '02 with just a bit over 67,000 km on the clock. According to the maintenance log I keep (and the service manual) my spark plugs should still be good for another 15,000 km (I replaced them all 20,000 km ago). The only maintenance I've skipped is the second valve clearance check (7,000 km overdue) but only because it's a very expensive job to get done. For everything else I've followed the service manual like gospel. If you have any idea what this could be, let me know! EDIT: Forgot to mention that this happened over a 20-ish km commute.
  3. I have been searching everywhere and I must be entering the wrong terms, so I thought I would ask. The previous owner relocated the rear shock adjustment knob inside the bike under the seat vs. on the right passenger pegs. This makes it look nice, but it eats up space. I am looking to add a fuse block, and now this knob is taking up real estate so I want to put it back outside. Only issue is that I do not have the bracket for it, and I cannot find what it's called. All I have now is the shock knob (attached by the hose to the shock) and the right passenger footpeg. I will need the following: The bracket, bolts, and nuts These circled collar extensions If there's a specific name for it that'd be great, then I can search the forum or eBay for anyone that is selling them
  4. Team VFR; I was just informed by my local dealership that my ABS Modulator on my 2010 DCT with 1600 miles has gone out. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I purchased the bike new in June so the warranty is still valid. I look forward to your assistance. Take care. Ride safe. Matt.
  5. Hi Could you describe for me how the ABS should work on my 06.VFR800A? How can it be tested if regarding front and rear tires this function is ok together with dual CBS? What should I hear or feel some feedback from the rear pedal or the front lever arm this time??? I know the abs system comes to action from 10km/h an higher. I tried my bike some times if it is ok, but I can not get any sign. When I push only the rear pedal really hard, the bike is stable and slow down well w/o any tire lock, but w/o any feedback from the pedal. I visited a Honda dealer and the tried the bike riding slow and at 40km/h on a rather dirty road but could not detect how it is working..if working. They did not seem to be expert.
  6. In the 'I can't leave well enough alone' department, I'm pulling the trigger on a set of the newer ABS injected Chinese fairings. I've decided on using the seller named Auctmarts, which from what I can tell, is the lesser of all of evils when you read anything about these aftermarket kits. Seems all of the horrible experiences with Chinese fairings, are from years ago before the industry started using more modern methods of plastic molding. So, with the relatively low entrance fee, I'm gonna give it a shot. My 2002 only has ~9000 miles on it, but I'm the third owner and somewhere along it's history, things have toppled into it. So, I can either roll my eyes at it, when the nicks and scratches catch my eye every time I ride it, or do something about it. I'm going with a total color change, from red, to a white/black theme incorporating a little bit of the red back into it. Wifey doesn't know it yet, but my inspiration is the colors of the flag of her home country. I figure when she yells at me for spending more money on this thing, I throw that little tidbit at her, and BOOM. That'll shut her up... :) Here's a before picture, which I've posted recently. Will keep updating throughout the process. I'm working with the seller now, to finalize paint details before I send money. Timeline and review to follow... And because I know someone is gonna ask, here's a pic of wifey with the Viffer Extra credit goes to anyone that can tell me her home country. :)
  7. I was surprised last weekend when I headed up to the GA mountains for a ride, and found that the first time I applied the front brakes I could feel what I will describe as pulsing through the brake lever. I continued to work the front lever until the pulsing stopped; all seemed well then the ABS light came on and flashed constantly the rest of the ride. I checked this site on my first stop to see if there was anything I could learn to minimize my concern but did not see anything that put my mind at ease. I have subsequently cleaned the front and rear brake calipers and replaced the brake fluid with Motul 5.1; used this in my other VFR 1200 and loved it. After the work I cleaned it up and rode carefully around the neighborhood; everything started out great then the pulsing started again in the front lever. I have not ridden it long enough to see if the ABS light comes back on and frankly, am not sure I want to try. One noticeable difference is that I had to adjust my front lever out; it is an ASV lever; from were it was with the stock fluid so that I did not pull the lever too far toward the grip. In as much, I am reaching out to the brain trust here to see what recommendations 'you' can make? My thought is to combine what I learn here in conjunction with what I learn from calling several Honda dealerships. The bike is under warranty just in case there is a bigger issue. Thank you very much for your assistance. Matt.
  8. Hello again - Here are pics of the 6-gen ABS shock I am considering buying to replace my non-ABS shock (I really want the remote preload adjust for 2-up). The adjustor hose has been disconnected at the banjo bolt for removal... can anyone spell out the process for filling/bleeding this part of the system? I want to make sure it is something I can do before I go and buy it. Looks like all the hardware is present and the shock is in good shape, was used for roughly 10,000 km. (6k mi) Thanks! Pics:
  9. VFR 1200FD Brake mod

I'm trying to upgrade the stock brake system on my 1200, but I'm not sure if it would interfare with the ABS system. I'm looking at a few things for it so far: Brembo master cylinder [ http://www.oppracing...ster-cylinders/ ] that website is not that good since it dosnt list a master cylinder for the 1200 or a way to figure out what size could you use, this one does through explain "how to" [ http://www.cyclebrakes.com/html/brembo_cylinders.html ] that one is one of the parts Im not so sure would fit right due to the ABS, any one swapped theirs? Thinking about getting one for the rear later on as well. Stainless steel brake lines front and back [ http://www.galferusa...ng-motorcycles/ ] I'll need the stock dimensions to get those made, if theyre not in the manual than it will be a little bit of searching around and measuring with a string to do... Brake pads EBC Sintered Double-H Rated Pads front and back [ http://www.perfectbr...ts.asp?cat=4083 ] Since calipers from Brembo are like 2000$ for just the front set and rotors are around 600$ a pop I decided to stick to stock with those... Do any of you know where is the ABS chip connected, and would swapping the master cyliner impact it in any way?
