Been working on this deal for about a year and a half.  86 VF1000R, 50K miles.

The previous owner lives about a half block from me.  It is a well maintained daily commuter bike that runs perfect.

Crashed on the freeway (I-5).  Not sure how fast but the story sounded like it was in some traffic.   A clutch master cylinder and left foot peg and bracket and it is ridable.  It has braided lines all around.  There were 86 VFR750 mirrors that he had painted red just to be different.  It actually looked pretty cool.  No idea how the right mirror broke in the crash.  It needs tires and fork seals (and new front pads).  Not sure what my plan is.  Think I'm gonna get the essentials taken care of and ride it in the rain for a bit.   But some ebay parts, new fork seals and pads, and 2 tires is gonna be a few dollars.  I recently sold a complete piece of shit 1974 MR50 for $500, so that helped pay for a good portion of the purchase price.  Oh and he had an extra front Comstar.

Not the most obvious commuter bike, but hey, I know a guy who uses his RC51 for that....

Did some digging.  Nothing I wasn't expecting.

Upper cowl stay took a shot.  But gauges are fine.  Fuse cover should be in line with ignition.  Wow.

Might be able to save it.  Speaking of the fuse cover, it is the only plastic that was cracked from being moved over.  And he completely drained the tank and it is perfect inside.

That is a pretty good find for the price. You'll end up with a nice bike in the end.

 

FWIW I rode  one of mine from midcoast Maine to San Diego and back in 2012. 6 days out, 6 days back, with 5 days hanging in SD, 7900 miles. They are surprisingly good road bikes.

Nice deal and it's definitely in good hands.  I wonder how the left turn signals survived the crash...they stick out pretty far.

Thanks everybody.  They do stick out and they were ground up a little, but the 1000 stays are pretty bouncy/flexible compared to some others.   But I was surprised too, I only had to tweak the front signal stay a little before loading to make sure it wouldn't hit the forks or fork brace.

 

The red mirrors he had painted were Euro models.  The arm to the mirror is aluminum, not a weird covered plastic like the 86 VFR750.
