Thinking about upgrading my 2002 VFR800 to a 2014. Does anybody know if the factory panniers will work with and after market top case rack/system?

The Honda top case is somewhat small and very pricey.

Sorry if this has been covered but I did a search and no luck!

Hello Joe,

Should do, as GIVI produces the Honda cases.  All you need is a topcase which bottom matches the base plate. If need be, put another base plate on the Honda rack.

If you already have the top bpx rack. post a picture and we can tell for sure.

Dutchy, Thanks for the fast response! I don't want to use the factory base plate or grab rail as they are very expensive ($300 and $250! not including the case!). I want to get the factory panniers and then get an after market top case with mounting hardware. Sorry to be unclear!

I've got a Givi top case and oem panniers, and they're fine. They don't use any shared mounting parts.

Thanks! Just the info I was seeking.

And using this setup with the factory panniers? I like the look of the SW Moto rack. Thanks!

Plus I already have a VTEC top box!

Wouldn't have said 45 l was small. Agree it is pricey tho.

The factory Honda for the 2014 VFR800 is 33 Liters correct? Do they make a 45 for the 2014 that I am missing? Part #?

This is what I've found:

31L is the standard, 45L is available.

Check the pdf here for UK Hondas. I'm guessing part # will be the same in the USA.

Curiously, the larger box is cheaper than the smaller one.

Anything can be made to "fit"...

The GIVI top case mounting "legs" were a bit to wide apart for the base plate to bolt one. So I used a metal plate to bridge and bolt the base plate on top. The 6th gen side case rack took a bit of more creativity...

My long search is over and I now have some VFR1200 panniers.  Same as the 800 I believe and they fit well with the Vtec topbox and aftermarket exhaust.

Congrats.  If you don't like the red, find out if someone in your area can vinyl-wrap them in black.  Probably cheaper than painting, easy to undo, and protects the cases and paint.  Just a thought.

Ooh, I never thought of wrapping them.  I've already started stripping the paint off as it was already lifting on one of the boxes.  I have some gloss black spray paint so I'll give them a coat of that first to see what they look like,
