2 days of hard work have uncovered this

Recommended Posts

Well, I picked up this old girl in PA a few days ago and spent yesterday sorting out the carbs and what was/wasn't wrong with her.  After the obligatory SAE bolt/nut removal (lmao, every bike!) I pulled off the pair system and am waiting on block off plates. Re ran the fuel lines/fuel filter and just did all the things that we all do...I'm a professional detailer and I worked on the AMA superbike scene back in the early 00's, so this is what happens when you combine those two areas and a neglected 91....

Nice one.

May I ask what you used on your windsceen?

My VF500F windscreen is in about the same condition yours was.

I used a rotary buffer (one that spins in only one direction) with a wool pad at 1800 rpms and a medium compound.

Then I used a foam cutting pad and the same compound on an orbital buffer (oscillating as it rotates)

After that I used a polishing pad with polish and followed that with a final finish pad and wax. All the orbital steps were done at about 4000rpms.

Interesting that the frame says its a 91 but the white body and wheels were only sold in 93. Possibly had a frame swap? My windshield was discolored as well but did not come out as well as yours. Good job. Looks like you have lots of things to keep you busy. Keep posting how the bike is going. This is my 93 ride.

Thanks. Just got it last fall. I did a little work over the cold winter. Fluids, Tires, etc. I put the high mount muffler on and removed the pass pegs. I also trimmed the ugly rear fender and installed a led plate light. I removed the  VFR750F decals and added the force v4 on the front fairing. The lower heat shields were beat up so I painted them aluminum. I have had two people ask if I wanted to sell it this summer. You just can't find bikes like these anymore. Its not the fastest bike or the best handling I have ever had but it has so much character and is a blast to ride. Years ago I had a 85 vf1000r. Loved the look but  it was too heavy.  Bikes come and go but I just might keep this one for a while

Some nice bikes in here, white's the way forwards...clearly! Mine was red originally but after a stand still drop I decided to get the whole thing resprayed.

I went with later fairing stickers and tank badge

Its the 18" I wanted to be quiet so I thought longer would be better. The quality was decent and the price was too.  You would need to loose the rear turn signals to fit it. I use the ones in the tail. I also trimmed the rear fender. Looks cool from the rear.

That's the longest can they offer. I think the high mount looks better with a longer can and a lower mount looks best with the stubby option they have. I had it on mine and it sounded sublime.

The bike is a 91. It was red at one point. Previous owner/s put a white tank and fender on it. I had gotten the uppers and tail from a member here. I had mids from another bike I was doing before this one, but this one was easier to get on the road. It's a restore project, I'm selling it. I had knee surgery last year and I've resorted to finding these bikes and putting them back to as close to what they should look like as possible. Rescuing them if you will. I have the block off plates, bike will be for sale tomorrow.

Just painted my 98 in white, not sure which decals to fit. I bought some cheap gold ones from e bay to see how the look before I clear Laquer over them. What do you think?

It looks okay in a minimalist way. And it does identify the machine. However,  I do love the stock decals. Were it my decision I'd try to find some originals.

Cheapo ones ok for trying, but if you are gonna coat over, get OEM...

Plenty to experiment with befor you do:  (

And while it DOES look good, RED NACA's are still the best :goofy:
