Brake fluid is caustic, especially to paint. Considering that the bars get jostled around and there could be some seepage, I would find a replacement screw and secure for sure. I took one of the screws with me to a hardware store and found a nice replacement screw that had a 2.5mm Allen head that works great. Although I have JIS screw drivers, much better than a Phillips screw driver, the Allen seems to be just a bit more secure when driving it in or out. I also use a touch of anti-sieze on the screws before I install them, makes removal much easier.

If it isn't leaking...

The screws are M4 or something, so if they corrode and snap, drilling them out can be tricky.  Pull the lid off and see if the stub is still accessible?  You could get lucky and be able to remove it using a vise-grip/Plus-Gas.
