Why does my bike die?

I hate electrical problems!

So after winter hibernation bike starts and runs fine except when I connect the battery leads for my heated gear (coax) or charger (SAE plug). It doesn't matter which is connected to the battery. Dashlights work but when I hit the start button, I lose power. Turn the key off and on the dashlights come back on but dies when I hit the start button again.

All is good when I remove the leads so it's just the battery and VFRness connected.

It worked before and I'm not doing anything differently from before.

What could it be? Any ideas?

If it's the battery, I'd consider that an easy and fairly cheap fix.

Good luck

Sounds like the battery is knackered, has enough capacity to light the lights but not enough for anything else.

Except that the bike starts up fine otherwise and there is nothing plugged into the leads when it dies. It is just connected to the battery terminals.

But I'm going to just get a new battery and see if the problem goes away. I can't think of anything else it could be.
