VFROr
Nice day, and bad weather coming, so time for a ride. Looks like a great ride through some nice country. This pic reminds a lot of the Big Hole Valley in MT Always liked the VF1000, a good friend had one when I had my VF700, did a lot of touring together on them, good times
Member Contributer Rush2112 Posted September 14, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted September 14, 2015 Nice pics! Glad you got in a good ride before the weather turns... thanks for sharing! You were way out in the woods, eh? I've never run into a bear crossing before, seen them while hiking but never from the saddle.
VF1000Fe
We rode that loop back in July. We saw this one, had a White Ear Tag. Lots of these licking the road. This Fella just mosey'd over, no hurry,,.. Need to pay attention when riding in those parts. The hiway there is actually closed in the winter for the Elk. Went out the next evening after a Carb adjust, got the Blue Moon,,.. Oh, ya, they don't make carbs anymore,,..

WGREGT
What in the world did you do to the windscreen on that 1000F? Is that an add-on?
VF1000Fe
The original Windscreen was/is terrible. The Turbulence/Buffeting was so bad I couldn't see straight after a 1 week tour. After 2 weeks I was a mess. I experimented with chopping that screen a few ways. Always an improvement, but not much. There is too much of a vacuum behind the Fairing/Screen. The Turbulence gets worse with speed. New bikes have either a cute/short screen, or a Significant Screen but with large areas where air gets in behind it. So I found a eBay "replacement" screen for a 1995 Kawasaki GSX something or other, from Hong Kong, delivered for $21. They had 19 pages of replacement screens/colors to chose from. I mounted it on some StandOffs. A huge improvement. The wind no longer hits me in the chest (most noticeable on Cold Mornings). The wind hits me in the forehead, so I may raise it more. Also, very important, the Air Stream is Smooth, almost no Buffeting. Not seen in any of the photos is a small Air Scoop, I made outa Furnace Tin, that Curves Air Up, under the Upper Radiator, under the Lower Triple Clamp, up that space in front of the Gas Tank. It adds more Air Flow behind the Fairing and provides Cool Air for the Air Box Intake. Win - Win. This bike has done a lot of Kms. Been to every state in Western USA, a few times. The Cams have been restored by MegaCycleCams/Ca.(Grind 161-00), DynoJet Kit (#1121) for fine tuning the mixture, Stator Connectors replaced at least once, Manual Radiator Fan Switch, GPS, Camera on Left HandleBar, Dirt Bike Hand Guards, Headlight Relay installed, 100W/55W Bulb, 17T-43T changed to 18T-42T (8.5% taller), Rear Shock by Jamie Daugherty http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/v4section.html. I've lost track of which Motor is in there now,,.. Powder Coated Frame, Next is the Seat Foam, its bagged after so much "abuse".
Member Contributer Lorne Posted October 1, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted October 1, 2015 Kananaskis is a beautiful part of Alberta. We rode 40 & 541 southbound a year ago though we saw far fewer critters than you.

I love clever solutions to problems, especially when they look that good! Well done. She's lookin' really good, especially for a 30 year old bike! VF1000Fe
Yes it was, and the day before too,,.. so I did Vermillion Pass instead,,.. More Intercepting,,.. 2 nice days in a row, so packed Light (and carried a thick wallet) and went out West of Cochrane, on the old 1A Hwy. Went by Canmore and Banfffff and over the Radium Hwy. Was Colder than I thought. But Construction Stops let me warm up. Finally into the Columbia Valley (warmer). Get Gas in Radium. Good run on the Radium Road, got the tires most of the way over,,.. This Center Groove just won't go away! I know the rears are Dual Compound, but the front? Sure nice ride down the Valley to Buddy's place in Cranbrook. Today rode the South route home, along HWY#3 Eastbound. Turtle Mtn collapsed once and buried the town of Frank (Frank Slide). http://history.alberta.ca/frankslide/ Now up HWY#22. Can get breezy,,.. Some nice Long Straights. Hard to take clear pics at Relativistic speeds,,.. (hence the Blue Shift). The GPS says 814km for the Round Trip. Rolling Avg of 97Km/Hr. Top Speed of,,.. um,,.. I'm gonna plead the 5th on that,,.. No Critters were hurt (or seen) on this tour. Oh, ya, also changed the Stem Ball Bearings to Taper'd Roller Bearings,,.. much better for riding with no hands. Will post a photo of the Windscreen StandOffs when I get a chance.

VF1000Fe
Fall Colors Ride Nice day, more cold next week, so time to squeeze in another ride. Never know when its the last ride of the year here,,.. Ride into the Foothills SW of the city, to buddy's place. The VF1000f sure has a narrow profile for a 1000, love that, now if I could narrow my own profile,,.. Chinook Arch is due to cloud the skies later, so better ride. We're a little late for best colors, but still good. Another good day in the Office Seat. Some fun corners, but some people have more "fun" than others,,.. We head west to a summit for a break and photos. Maybe another weather window later in October?,,..

VF1000Fe
Should be a Hot day here today, so time to test the newly installed Upper Rad Fan; Out thru SpringBank, along the TransCalamity to Morley, and West on 1A Bike runs fine; Stop in Canmore for a Bagel Smashwich; It did get up to +30'C The new fan helps but its not a Fix. It might be running Lean, so I'll raise the Needles on the next Maintenance.

VF1000Fe
Smoke-Out! Smoke from BC Forest Fires has been drifting into southern Alberta all summer (July & August). Just gotta "suck-it-up" and ride. Harvest Time in WheatLand County Have to be careful not to start fires with hot exhausts. Air Cleaner is probably black, but that's what its for.
