Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 12, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted September 12, 2015 does anyone know for a fact that early VF500 (84 F or the Magna) system will fit on a later 86 VF500F2? Came across a dirty, dirt cheap set as a spare for when the oem gives way. degreased and wirebrushed it to reveal googled it but found little definative. The really crappy mufflers (piles of rust came out) are much lighter and a bit shorter than the VF500F2 ones (cheers Timmay!) They will fit on the cutrrent collector box will not use them -they are really grotty-, but it might help identify the system They are not slash cut like picture of the Magna; the rear looks the same as mine so I suspect VF500F Your opinions please, for I donot mind storing stuff but if I -hopefully in many years- find out it does not fit.... VFRBert
Put a lot of oil into them, that wil stop the rusting. Probably it looks much worse then it actually is. You can fix the outside with VHT flameproof paint.

keny
All vf500f exhaust should be the same as engine "basically" same all years, the vf500 custom I don't know, but should be a much alike. The muffler in your pic is a aftermarket OEM like one made by SITO, a part of Leo Vince group today
jeremyr62
The oil pan is deeper on the 86 so the collector boxes are different. I am pretty sure I saw this discussed on one of the VF sites before. I have a feeling the 84/85 might fit the 86, but not the other way round. The info is out there if you search. timmythecop
I quick look ( and i may be wrong) but the nagna plenum looks larger than the interceptor item. Those colkector boxes are all over ebay for 35 bucks.

The oil pan only matters if we are talking about aftermarket headers that cross under the pan. Most systems were designed in 84 and hence don't jive with the 86 pan. Full Yoshi is exempt because it pairs left and right along the sides of the pan. All years stock collectors are interchangable in my experience (Fs, not sure about Cs)
keny
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-VFC-500-V30-Magna-collecteur-boite-a-fumee-seule-d-echappement-d-origine-/200915101947 So the collector seems from a magna according to this A set of 500F one http://www.ebay.com/itm/84-85-Honda-VF500F-Interceptor-Exhaust-Headers-and-Collector-Chamber-/371412530742?hash=item5679e97636&vxp=mtr Looks a bit different... Member Contributer Sparrow75 Posted September 13, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted September 13, 2015 Dutchy, I think the V4 engines in the Magna/Sabre were tilted at a different angle than the sport setup of the Interceptor so that may put the collector into an odd position. Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 13, 2015 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 13, 2015 Cheers all! With the pipes black and not slash cut, i lean towards ot being a Interceptor set. Fellow Dutchman "The Dutchy" confirmed that on his early VF500F he fitted the larger 86 oil pan and had no problem. So this will become a "here is one VFT baked we prepared earlier"...
