100% stock methink

But I bought the bike used and have not had the carbs serviced/opened so cannot be sure if anything was changed here....

Testament to the build and design. You would be pushed to find a modern 500 pumping out out anything like much power. Just a pity it's a bit fragile in the valve train area.

31 years is a long time...

Dutch CL had a set of "race bodywork" for the RC51 "from Japan". So I swung round to have a look.

Hmmm, all panels still properly wrapped but the shipping paperwork said "Hongkong".... :-)

The seller (the father since his son was in hospital follwing his wreck) looked puzzled... "Hongkong is Japan no?"

I am pretty sure he feigned ignorance, but we agreed a price we were both happy with....

Plenty horror stories on the web on Chinese bodywork, but one wintry/bored day will test fit it.  In the attic space now, hope I never really need them :-)

"tasteless" tankpad included :goofy:

Straight into the vertical archive!!!

Unless Timmy wants it.....

Or mount the Chinese plastics and save the originals...

The OEM bodywork looks nicer so that will stay on; especially the top/nose fairing.

My sides do have a few blemishes, but the gray wing color matches perfectly with the tank.

But, having saying that, I've been know to change my mind (aka get in touch with my female side :goofy:)

The kit came along at a very good price, a price I could not resist

Useful info. Gives me something to aim for. Possibly that dyno was a tad optimistic though.

The 4th gen (open exhaust, K&N filter, dynojet kit all done by the owner, not a tuner) produced 97 ponies so I don't think that dynoyet bench is overly optiimistic. But benches do vary, as does altitude (the town is about 8 metres over sea level) etc as we all know

As you spotted there is so little dyno info for the VF500F. A google search brings up bugger all. The chart I posted was from the original reviews way back.I suppose these then became the "truth".

Your run is as valid as anyone elses. Have you managed to measure the top end on it? The best I have ever seen on mine was 183km/h on a GPS. Mine definitely doesn't deliver 59hp though.

I might try and get mine tested..

I will need to find an excuse (as if I need one) to break the Dutch speed laws now......  "I am sorry officer, but this Jeremy character made me do it.... "

Or nip across the border into Autobahn country :goofy:

Here's another dyno run from way way back. This is for an 1984 version with the 32mm carbs and different heads. 55hp, which is close to what Cycle got when they tested the 84 version (they got 53.2hp).

Well, despite what they claim, the Autobahn is no test track :-)

9/10 attempts I had to abandon as I was approaching traffic... Earlier, doing 130kmh I nearly got wiped out (by a dutch cager; the worst drivers in the world behind the Americans....) not checking his mirrors and move into my lane....  :-(

The Autobahn really depends on which one you're on.  The popular ones are not only very crowded, but absolutely chock-full of restricted speed zones that go on for miles.  And don't get me started on the "Lärmschutz" speed limits!  Besides which, of course, when I'm in Germany on a bike it's usually loaded up like a camel, so testing its top speed is a bit of a pointless exercise!

Ciao,

Wow....  interesting data from my Garmin device

Knipsel.JPG.a0f677a7be9527f51baebb193df1a1c2.JPG

3 clicks to get from 160 to 190 and one minute.

The Garmin tracks time/averages per section, making is impossible to determine "real" acelleration. Took her a minute

But she is no torque monsta! One day will check out the SP2

That Dyno chart is almost identical to mine from years ago, it made 59hp at the rear wheel, stock apart from K&N filter, plus a Predator stainless 4-1 exhaust.  It made better mid range with the snorkel in the airbox.
