About Me

I go by the name "Monk"...... I live in Danville,VA...... on the NC/VA line near Greensboro(where I lived for a year)
I served in the American Armed Forces; and also drove semi's coast to coast; Retired from FedEx in 02'. I grew up in Danville through high school, left in 62', went into the Navy, was a life support spec., Went to the Med for 10 months on an A/C carrier, port to port at most countries on the med's coast. Sat off shore in the "Bay of Pigs"(Cuba) in 63'. Got out of the Navy and got married/ONE son/Divorced. Went In the Air Force Spent a year(Mar 67'-68')in Viet Nam(Laos), from there I got a tour in the UK(Mid-Lands) just north of Cambridge. I was there 3 years and bought a red Triumph Spitfire New 68'(car). and put 90,000 miles on it while there. Then when I got out of the USAF....... I bought a New 72' Bmw 750cc and rode it around for a year, or so then took off for about a year just zig-zagging N/S while moving slowly West, riding/camping/jumping out of A/C.... Ended up in Denver.... After I put 100k on the beemer, I got a Yamaha 750 Spec. shaft and put 100k on it in the Rockies...... Then got a 99' VFR and put another 100k on that one..... Now that I'm retired, I can finally get out and go riding(still divorced).... So I bought a new VFR 08' the 1st of March 09', and only put 11,000 miles on it so far(Now July 09'), In the middle of May I went down to the "Tail of the Dragon" area for about a week(most fun I've had since I moved from Denver)... after a few days on the TOTD, I came back and did a 8 lap "non stop/end to end".... I started getting slower on the 7th lap so I did one more to get me back on the store end of the tail....... I've done a few mod's to it since I bought it, which I'll put in my signature. I'll post some pic's if I can, if not will post some later....... Monk (John)

We have nice open roads and long stretches. There are a lot of passes in South Africa and Touring is great. Enjoy your retirement. God bless you sir.

Hi Mr. Monk, Yeah temps in South Africa vary in summer from mid twenties to early thirties (Deg. Centigrade) and winters from 8 Deg C to maybe a warm 16 deg. C. Too lazy to convert it to Farnheit, sorry. My dad past away in 1995 and I wish he was still alive because the oldman would have enjoyed these new bikes ALOT. He had a Norton and Royal enfield when I was a 5 years old.

Yeah, Monk. Us 64 year olds have to stick together. They don't make them like us anymore LOL. Nice bio, my man.
