New to VFRD, new to street bikes (only had dirt bikes), and loving it, Bought a 2000 VFR800Fi with 24,000mi for Memorial Day weekend, built my bike rack That weekend was a greay shakedown and learning experience for me. Since then I've been all over including the Catskills, Adirondacks, and VT this weekend. Just replaced my headlight bulbs for the weekend (lost high beams last wknd).

The VFR is great, sounds awesome w/the Two Bros. exhaust, and is so practical with the hardcases and bike rack (I race mountain bikes a lot). Really love riding and I am getting used to the style of riding. I am selling the passenger grab handles and seat cowl if anyone is interested. Once l perfect the rack I will be selling those, too!

As for tires, I will be needing a new rear tire soon. I do many more miles ot touring than sporty riding. What rear tires do you guys recommend? Looking for miles over performance. Currently on Pirelli Diablo Strada model.

Welcome to VFRD from across the pond :tour:

Why sell the grab handles and seat cowel? Just put them in the shed, they do not eat bread

One day you might need them, even if this is when you sell the bike....

Welcome, nice job on the bike carrier....... Talking about racing, did you see a part of the French race where a photographer caused a pile up by get on the wrong side of the pedestrian barrier ? (what a numb-nut).
Looks like you have the best of both worlds......... Enjoy your VFR........

Just be sure that the rack part you "didn't" make is sturdy, that's got some leverage working against you.

Congrats on your VFR and welcome to the forum! I'm always amazed at what people can carry on a motorcycle when they put their minds to it. Nothing too odd for me - a trumpet case often, and a M/C tire once in awhile when I'm headed to the shop to get one changed. I bet you get a lot of strange looks from other motorists, and admiring smiles from cyclists!

As Dutchy said, hold onto the seat cowl and grab handles. The next owner of your bike will want them, and they're difficult to find anymore. I never use my OEM seat and seat cowl, but they are stored in my garage if and when I need them or sell the bike.

As for tires, the Michelin Pilot Road 2 is a good tire with a nice combo of grip and tread life. There is a PR3 now, but I haven't had one yet. I had good experiences with Continental Road Attacks, too. Personally, I usually run a sportbike tire up front for extra grip and a sport-touring tire on the rear for longer tread life.

Great looking bike jaydj, I have a yellow one as well.

I'm also an avid cyclist and am looking at ways to ship my bike with me. Do you by chance have any more pictures of your bike rack setup? Would love to try and setup something similar to what you have. Thanks!
