I've been wanting a power outlet on my this bike for a while....had one on my '87 VFR and used it for my phone, Garmin, etc. I didn't really want to drill into the inner fairing on this bike like I did for the last one, so I couldn't decide how to mount one until yesterday. BTW, I'm too cheap for a powerlet setup and prefer the traditional "cigaret plug" for my uses.

I found one of these "all weather" outlets at the auto store for about $8...has the spring loaded "flapper" door on top to keep water out. I finally decided to mount it to the right of my ignition switch on the front surface of the triple. Rather than remove, drill, and screw it on, I decided on epoxy for attachment.

While I was at it, I fabbed up a little metal bracket (also attached with epoxy) to hold a lighted switch for a radiator fan bypass. I had one on my old VFR and like having the option to flick the fan on when in traffic during the heat of summer. It also lights up when the fan comes on automatically, so I can use it as a monitor to know it's working on its own.

Anyway, just wanted to share my work from yesterday. This was all very cheap.....$8 for the outlet, $6 for a spool of green wire (I already had red), and then I had the rest of the items in my tool chest from past projects....switch, wire, relay, wire loom, etc.

  • Why VFRD?:Because it is the best motorcycle forum on the planet. I am on VFR#3, having "retired" two Gen 4's. Loving my Gen 5 now.

Nice workmanship and a very good price.

BTW, all those keys and key fob are going to scratch the hell out

of your triple clamp flopping around in the breeze.

Riders-in-the-know, use only a key.

When it comes time to sell, a scratched up triple clamp will

reduce the selling price a bit. I know. I was a Honda motorcycle

sales mgr. a long time ago.

Thanks guys.

Regarding the multiple keys....the triple was pretty scratched up already when I acquired the bike, so looks aren't so much a concern anymore. As it stands now, it already either needs to be repainted or covered with something at some point. Until that happens, convenience rules.
