Ok, so I received my new st1100 throttle cables today (17910-MT3-000 cable A and 17920-MT3-000 cable B). I spent about an hour and a half installing the helibars. The clutch side went without a hitch, however I am stuck on the throttle side. I have the bars installed, and the throttle cables routed following the factory route, but the free length of the cables seems too short to be able to attach at the engine end of the cable. Is there a trick to getting the cable back into the throttle body end?

ST1100 throttle cable

you will get very little to no slack but it works. I am using it for last 6 months and no issues. in time it will stretch.

Did you remove the bracket that the throttle cables attach to? Then you can move the cables closer to the wheel, and hook the cables in their grooves, then slide the assembly back and resecure the bracket to the throttle bodies.

I JUST did this this week, and it worked fine. You may have to manually work the throttle wheel to get the cables attached.

We strongly recommend that you use only genuine Honda accessories that have been specifically designed and tested for your motorcycle. We strongly advise you not to remove any original equipment or modify your motorcycle in any way that would change its design or operation. Such changes could seriously impair your motorcycle’s handling, stability and braking, making it unsafe to ride.

No, I did not remove the bracket, was trying to lasso the wheel with the bracket attached. I will give it a try! Thanks.

I have had Heli's on my 2000 on and off many times swapping between stock and heli's.

There has never been and issue with the cables or hoses being to short.

Is this issue limited to first generation(98-99) fifth gen VFRs?

Edited by gr8vfr, 28 September 2012 - 06:36 AM.

Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time, but always enough time to do it over?

I had helibars on my 99 before i did the front end swap. I had stock cables with no issues. Just had to reroute them for maximum free play.
