I'm riding to an annual event organized on VFRW called R3 (Reggies Roadhouse Roundup, May 27-29) in late may. I'll be leaving on the 21st or 22nd, allowing 4-5 days each way, and I'm setting up the logistics for a maintenance day before the return trip. The plan is early in it's development, but right now it looks like I'll be leaving Ga, meeting another VFRW membef from the DC area in Memphis, and shooting across I-40 most of the way. The maintenance day will either be in California or Phoenix AZ on the way back- it just depends on what works best for everyone who goes. Myself I plan on shipping out fresh tires, chain/sprockets, oil and filters to put on prior to the return trip. NOT taking any chances going through the desert...

One of the members from here may be riding with me, but it isn't in stone so I won't drop his name, and another guy here might fly out to meet there if he can squeeze in the time, but we'll see as it gets closer.

Gonna be a good time. This is gonna put the Iron Butt to shame!

This is vfrd? vfrw is another site... OUR Big May event is on the homepage. Just checking to see if you thought you were on the other site?

Good luck with that ride I-40 sucks ass though I would find another route, Memphis is a great place to jump off into the Ozarks Check out Eureka Springs and the umpteen million great ozark roads near there. NM head down to Silver City via hwy 158 Emory Pass and ride the Gila Monster the 4 corners version of the Dragon. Over the Boarder from there into the southern mountains of Arizona and over to Prescott and ride more great roads, its all somewhat near and around i-40 round about. Cloudcroft NM, in there too.

Yeah...... I could really give a shit less about "who's ride is who's".....

I figured since lots of folks are members on BOTH sites (and probably more...) I'd just put the word out in case anyone wanted to see 9 or 10 states, and cover 5 thousand miles in a period of about 12 days.... Sry for offending your sense of proprietarianism

Now Now, Micky. He's just trying to be helpful. Don't go balistic. Great idea to leave the slab called I 40.
Should be a great time. Hope you and whomever have a great ride.

you see the way you phrased this as "OUR big may event ..." I could see where 82nd would get miffed.. yeah pretty sure he knew what site he was posting to. Like he said , there are people that belong to both forums.. some here that aren't over at VFRW anymore, and some that wewre here and are only at VFRW.. now myself personaly, I belong to both sites, and have a few friends here and more over on the other one. I have made use of the "free" section here. each site is promoting the bike WE all like.

Another plus for staying off I-40, the parts of OK and TX are not going to be too enjoyable, plus the wind in OK is a HUGE pain to deal with on two wheels. I know it is the quickest way to get there, but should be partly about the Journey, not all destination. Outside of that, have fun and plan on more than 5k miles, my ride to CO/UT/AZ from/back to Atlanta ended up being almost 5k miles.

Didn't think about that... Not a bad idea... That might be better worked into a track day though. Nevertheless- worth lookin into...

I agree, but I'm in the military- so I'm burning leave time (of which they only authorize a max of 16 days at a time here), and I have to leave a safety net within that in case somethin goes wrong. I don;t need to be FTR or AWOL.

If you have a chance to visit Hearst Castle while you are in SLO, hit it.
Worth the side trip. :fing02:
If you're born in the world, you get a ticket to the freak show.
If you're born in America, you get a front row seat.
