I blame this build on FotoMoto and his RCBVFR. I think his bike looks awesome. So after I got in a crash with my bike I had to try it.

I am starting off with a 94 VFR with 32,000 miles with a few upgrades. Galfer brake and clutch lines, forks rebuilt w/ Gold valves and new springs, 929 rear shock rebuilt and modded by DM, PAIR delete, K&N, and a few other small items.

I am installing a 6th gen tail section that I had a guy that builds chassis mod up the bottom bracket that mounts to the stock location, shortened the sub frame about 1 3/4" (to get seat a little closer) and make some brackets.
It is only "rattle canned" painted for now, will powder coat later.

I am now working on finding a good location for the electronics. I might have the sub frame powder coated later.

As for the front I have installed a 2005 CBR100RR gauge cluster all wired up and works (So far so good, have not started yet so some things I have not checked) and I still need to get a SpeedO Healer.
I am also using a 2005 CBR600RR Front fairings. (I got the fairing kit and Headlight assy. from Delkevic off ebay) Had it mocked up and it looks GREAT (just waiting on a few more things from Honda).

Again, I want to thank Doug (FotoMoto) for his help! and the others that has supplied some of the parts I needed. (sa1713, kermitoo7, and Luvmyvfr). :fing02:

I will post more pictures soon. This is a lot of FUN!!!!! would love to do this for a living :fing02:

The subframe isn't really as crooked as it looks in the 3rd pic, is it?

I think I would have used a thicker connecting plate too.

No it is not bent (just the angle of picture).
I could not really use to thick plate due to the tight space. But for what I am doing I thought it would be strong enough.

Just to let you know... I am NO welder and I have never done anything like this before. I have not used any real special tools either just a die grinder w/ cut off wheel, grinder, and some hand tools.

I am sure someone could do a better job. This is my first real project bike, so I am just having some fun.

Thanks Jay and Travis.

Travis, I really like the looks on the bends of the lower frame rail but I do have a concern that that might make things tight for the battery. Right now, it's too hard for me to tell without the undertray installed. Obviously, you will need to trim down the front section of the tray to clear those new bends of the bottom rails.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks,

Yes sir, I will have to get a smaller battery. But I did not like the feel of being so far back when I mounted the rear frame and the gap between the tank and seat. It has a very good feel now after I shortened it. (I have already trimmed up the fender and fits good.) I hope to have some more pictures posted in a few to show how I ran my wires. I think I am going to mount the R/R towards the front (some thing like the CBR600RR's for better air flow). Just got a new VFRness from JT.

Thanks,
Travis

OK, I got some more done on my project today. I hope you enjoy. I did a lot of little custom stuff today.

Moved the R/R to the right front, had to do a little mod to the coolant res tank holder) used TJ's VFRness but did some mods to make it work, ran longer 10 gauge wire from R/R to battery w/ 20amp fuse, shortened the stator wires, 10 gauge wires, and hardwired. 12 gauge wires to starter relay. (NO it is NOT close to the exhaust at all, just looks that way. It will get great air flow! :fing02: )

I got a CBR1000RR battery to fit (a lot smaller) plus it will make it faster!

Found a good home for the coils and routed wires and mounted relays and such.

CBR1000RR gauge works great!

Sorry the pictures are not all that great and some are at a strange angle (its hard to take good pictures in a 7X7 shed!)

Looking great Travis.

Can't tell from the pics but have you dealt with the seat latch/lock issue? I still haven't installed my lock that came with undertray or made a key. I'm still using a simple but hidden pull cable to release mine. I totally forgot about that the first time I put the seat on. Luckily the undertray wasn't bolted on so I could still get to the latch from the underside with a long screwdriver.

I had a local autoparts store make new, longer battery cables for me. If I were to do it again, I'd take the originals to them and see if they could use the stock ends (terminals). Designed for cars, theirs were WAY too big so I had to file them down to fit.

Ha, let us know how much more hp you get from that CBR battery.
Did you have to do anything special to get the gauges to work? (not that I'm going to switch, just curious) I had to get the CBR temp sensor and a speedohealer for my 900 gauges.

As for the seat latch... I have not put it on yet, but I will just make something like I did on it when it was stock, I hid it behind the license plate.Posted Image
Picture 016.jpg Seat release cable (just forward of the license plate). I removed the rear pegs so I wanted a easy way to release the seat. Used a few wire ties, heat shrink tubing, and throttle bracket from my 89 Toyota pick up that I modded.

As for the battery cables. I used the stock negative and got a longer positive cable to starter and ran it on the left side of engine and used stock connectors (I split them open from cable and reconnected and soldered back together. I soldered all the wires that I had to mess with)
another reason I got the CBR1000RR battery is because the terminals are switched. :fing02: .

As you know it was kind of a pain trying to find a good place for all the wires and relays to make it look factory and fit good.

Well, with the new CBR battery, gauges, and front fairings (waiting on parts) I should gain 15 to 20hp and if I paint it RED I might get another 10hp

I did have to get a different ECT sensor (got mine from Koso part # BF030125) and I have a SpeedO Healer on the way.

With the help of FotoMotos post when he did. I used the Honda Service Manual for my 4th gen and one for the gauges I used CBR1000RR wire Diagram. Most of the wires match up.... G to G, O to O, ect..... but you will NOT use all of them. You will also need a different ECT sensor (4th gen is 1 wire, CBR 2 wire) and will need a SpeedO healer.

Too bad the 6th gen subframe adds a few hundred pounds to your bike though! It's a pig for sure, but it will support hard bags!

Looking good man keep us posted, and like Seb said roll that puppy outside and get some pix from farther out.

Slight thread jack - Anyone know of a 5th gen compatable subframe? I would love to find something close that I could modify to work rather than from scratch. And aluminium would be a real plus. This is for a lo budget streetfighter project built from a wreck that has 1 of the 4 tabs broke off.
The whir of gear driven cams makes me giddy.

Yes Sir, that thing is a PIG. But I really love the way it looks. Plus I have always thought that the stock 4th gen has a big wide butt.

Well, I got her out of the shed today for some PICTURES (you guys happy now??? )

At first I could NOT get it to start.... I trouble shot for a few then :idea3: TURN THE GAS ON!!. It fired right up and all the gauges work, but speedo (speedo healer on the way), and the low fuel light inop (will trouble shoot that later) and boy does that CBR1000RR battery spin her over fast & easy!

The Exhaust is NOT hooked up (just on for pictures)

Still need to get 3rd gen rear wheel powder coated (just don't know what color I should go with yet??), mount rear brake res, mount exhaust, finish mounting the front fairings (take some of the rake out of the top), find out how to run all the wires behind front fairings, hook up SpeedO healer when I get it (6/17), and a few small things.

Any one have an idea of how I could paint it? (I will NOT paint it RED, because I respect FotoMoto and do NOT want to do a carbon copy of his.)

Well here are the pictures. I did take a few of the same pictures I have posted before, but I think these are better. I hope to have more tomorrow (if it does not rain).

Great pics, looks like you got that seat mated up real close to the tank, good job.
What about white with a little black here and there (seat/decal/smoke windscreen/etc)? Don't know if you like spending more time cleaning than riding but I think the 6th gen in white looks very good
