Installing Front Wheel

I took of my front wheel to get a new tire put on, but later read in the Haynes manual that I should mark the position of the disk brake in relation to the wheel BEFORE removing the wheel. I didn't do this. I also forgot to mark which disk was left and right. Am I in trouble here? Not being a mechanic, I'm feeling rather sick about this. One other note: can I reuse the original bolts to re-attach the disk if I apply locking compound? I noticed the bolts have red compound. Does it matter if I use blue?

Hi Craig,
First off, you never need to remove the rotors for a tire install! Stop that!
Second there are small arrows on each rotor for direction ID and one arrow on one side of the wheel, you can use any light/med loctite you wish. :fing02:

Sure enough. Little arrows....doh! Thanks guys. The Haynes manual had me thinking I had to line up the bolt holes in the rotor and wheel exactly like they were before I removed them. If I reuse the original bolts, do I have to clean off the original locking compound? I tried some light scrubbing, but it won't come off.

Thanks for the downloading tip. The Honda service manual is a lot better.

Clean bolts with a bench grinder wire wheel if you have one, if not use a wire brush, and when you put the rotor bolts back on be sure to torque to spec. ....... 2 reasons, so they won't come undone, and less chance of warping the rotor (use what ever colour locktight that was on the bolt when you took it off) ........ Use blue loctite on the rotor bolts - not sure what Honda uses, they actually want you to buy all new bolts instead of re-using the old ones. I've re-used the old ones countless times without failure.

I used blue, it's all I could find, although the original bolts had red. The bolts are bloody expensive to buy brand new. The wire brush worked, but it did take a while.
