Just wonder if anyone else has done this and how it's worked out. I want to mount my V1 on my bike, but I don't want it on a RAM arm. I'm kind of anal about clean installations.

Here's a picture of the standard windshield mount stuck to the VFR's windscreen. I was thinking I could just permanently epoxy the mount to the inside of the screen. It doesn't seem to move forward or back at all, and removing it is easy - as simple as pushing down on the grip on the top of the mount and pulling it forward. Its downward slope isn't as steep as it looks, so I think radar reception will still be plenty acceptable. This picture was taken from the angle at which I look at my gauges, so everything is nice and visible. I'd drill a small hole in the front cowl underneath the windscreen and run the power cable down that way.

Thoughts?

Here's a thought...

Will that unit fit in the "pocket" between the windshield and the top of the gauges if you remove the mounting bracket? If so, use some velcro tape and snug it in there. It will be secure, visible and easily removable.

Sooner or later I'll end up finding the perfect devise for that spot...

I use velcro tape to hold my XM unit to the flat spot of the fairing right next to the tank under the left handlebar. Never had a problem.

My slightly educated answer to your question:

I have also considered mounting something to the inside of my windshield, and I think a strong epoxy would work well.

FYI The V1 needs t be level and have a clear line of sight front/back and to the sides to work good. The way you have it mounted you are at big risk on getting caught with the reduction in performance.

Well I guess that blows my idea out of the water (at least for radar detectors).

Has anyone mounted anything in that pocket?

Both set ups above lose the V1's rear protection.
I'm yet to see a pic of a bike set up where a V1 rear protection is not blocked.

Oh well. This is better than not have a V1 at all.

I've done it. Here are some pics of the setup on my bike. Works great:

Here's the mount I used from Cycle Gadgets.com:

And by the way, with the windshield mount, it can detect hits from both front AND back. Some of the messages have mentioned that it won't work on detecting hit from behind but I'm here to tell you it can.

I saw this mount when I was looking for a solution for my V1.
I just did not want to make holes on the windshield.
I'm going to test the v1 and see if mine can still detect rear radars even with my body blocking it.
:fing02: if it does.

The V1 as mounted on the screen will catch radar from the rear, but it must have a clear line of sight in order to be effective in picking up laser. With the rider in the way, it may pick up deflections that bounce off other cars, but that seriously compromises the range.

I consider laser detection as sort of a gee-whiz feature of no practical use. The minute you hear the laser warning, it's probably too late. You're the proud recipient of a performance reward.
