I met a Georgia MSF instructor last week that has some good contacts in the motorcycle community (just happens to live about 7 miles from me as well). One of his contacts happens to be the tire guy for the Kevin Schwantz motorcycle school. I'm not sure how much he is making on the deal, but he sells take off from the school bikes for $175. The tires are put on for students, ridden the weekend, and taken back off again. I went and looked a set the other night and ended up buying them. Apparently the students are either novices or too afraid to drop a school bike to push it. I'd say the tires are 98%. Tires on my track bike don't look that good after one session on the track, let alone 2 days. The last set of new Pilot Powers I bought were about $245 shipped, so $175 is a pretty decent price considering the condition of the tires.

The guy has been using these tires the past 50k miles on his 2001 VFR (must be a great guy  ) and hasn't had any issues. He even put a brand new tire on once just to see the difference and he said it was about 400 miles. That's close enough for me that other factors could have contributed to the difference (temperature, type of riding, etc). He has access to 180/55ZR17 and 160/60ZR17 (SV650's) rears, along with the 120/70ZR17 fronts (not sure if he can get the 120/60ZR17 fronts).

He was selling rears individually for a while, but has decided to stop that. He now has a pile of fronts that he hasn't been able to get rid of, so he dropped the price to $40 each just to clear out some of his extras. You could buy a new rear and his $40 front if you didn't want a set for $175. Either way I think it is about the same amount of money.

Let me know if your interested and I will put you in contact with him.

Just powers. No 2CT's, no race.

I might be interested. Also, you going to be around this weekend? I have Butch's rims pulled and my rims and swingarm ready to head to the powdercoater... provided I can get my rear back from cornercarver in time. I will call you tomorrow if that is OK.

For those of you who have not tried the PP's, this is a good way of doing so. I've been using them and I can say that they are very forgiving tires. If not for wanting to try another brand, I would jump on these. If you've used the PP's and are now using something else, chime in hear and let me know the good and bad.
Life is unfair, get over it.

Is this just a local thing or can they be shipped. I'd buy a front right now for $40 plus shipping.

Indeed, will these be shipped? Or pick up only? $40 bucks is pretty good if these really are 90%+.

As far as I know I will be around. Might go for a ride on Sat. if it's nice. Give me a call and we can talk about it.

As far as shipping the tires. I never asked specifically, but did ask if he advertised on VFRD. He said no, he was on the Yahoo group and posted there, but without much response. I would have to say if he is wanting to get rid of them, he would be willing to ship. Send him an e-mail at bdinoff AT hotmail DOT com I'll also send him note warning him.

I tried to take pictures of the tires and they came out like crap. I only saw the one set that I bought, but if the rest are like that (he says they are) I may never buy a brand new tire again. :D

He just confirmed he is willing to ship, as long as you pay for the shipping of course. :)

I was at Barber a couple of weeks ago for the AMA race. Not sure when I will be going back, but will be at Tally on May 23rd & 24th.
